Two weeks on Sertraline (Zoloft)

I’m noticing a slight difference but I still feel my physical symptoms and the weird feelings. Talked to my psychiatrist today and he thinks me staying at 25mg for another couple weeks would be good because he realizes my body is awfully sensitive to a lot of things. I did tell him about the nausea, upset stomach, dry heaving, that crushing feeling on the right side of my head and face is back. I’ve been having some very very vivid lucid dreams since starting the Zoloft like this morning I was dreaming started having anxiety in the dream woke up to my heart racing. I’ve keep having random like waking ups throughout my sleep with this like feeling that comes over me and my heart starts racing ugh. But I am giving the Zoloft a shot because what if it does actually help. But of course I seen an article saying that Zoloft can mess with your heart and for a couple days I swear I’ve either been having more heart palpitations or it’s my stomach idk

My therapist wants me to focus on baby steps and not trying to take big steps and make sure that I’m realizing the baby steps and being proud of them.

Hell I feel like I’d make a good study for mental health people crazy shit my mind and body is doing

Give it 6 weeks, sadly that is what it takes for a new medication to really make a difference. The problem I always had was I needed relief now. Maybe try to sleep with something quietly playing in the background. I leave the TV on so my brain has something to focus on but pick something gentle as sometimes the sounds mix into my dreams. I hope that helps. I am on the same medication.

Adam,

I think your concerns are valid if you are new to any medication. Stay off the internet looking for side effects. That, alone, could be causing some of the things you are describing.

I was on Zoloft for a long time. I was on a higher dose, even. It does take a while to build up and start working. The more you stress about it, the less effective it will be.

I am currently working with a coach to look at a phenomenon called The Expectation Effect. If you expect side effects and crazy things happening while you are unconscious, they will more likely happen. You are looking for them #1 and you are priming your mind and body for them #2.

Do you do a body scan meditation before bed? It might be helpful to relax body tension.

One thing I have noted, regardless of the medication, is if I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom and back to bed or snooze the alarm, I go into a completely different kind of sleep. It is then that I get the bizarre dreams.

Periodically throughout the day, do you do any type of regrouping? A bathroom break is perfect for it if you are in an office. Sit with good posture. In your head, say something to yourself that is positive and reassuring. If you are at home, say it out loud. Never force it, just breath and relax. If it does not feel right, try it later.

Best Buy of luck.
