I started sertraline 50mg a week ago today. Side effects have been ok so far.
feeling tired, couple of hot flushes but nothing major. I’ve woke up this morning feeling very anxious.
Just want some clarity for any of you who are on it that this is normal? My GP did say it could happen but I didn’t expect it to be like this! Hoping it passes after today

I experienced this with Sertraline, unfortunately the tiredness continues but the hot flushes slowly go. You will find that you get hot and sweaty a bit too.
thank you for the reply! Speaking to others helps me calm down a bit with this! I can deal with tiredness lol but yea, the sweating seems to have started which isn’t great when at work!
I found that 50mg was not sufficient and didn’t seem to be helping me, I have been increased to 100mg. I am yet to see any improvement in my anxiety and depression even with the higher dose. As with all medication it takes time.
Hello, i was on Sertraline for a long time but it didn't help my depression or anxiety at all, i am now on Mirtazapine and it suits me better. Well, it helps with my sleeping but very little else if I'm honest.
That's exactly how I felt when I first started taking it. I'm on same dose aswell I thought it was causing nausea but it turned out I was getting the flu x hope your side effects dye down soon.
I had major/much worse anxiety with sertraline and ultimately decided to wean off it. At lower doses, the anxiety abated somewhat, so you may want to consider adjusting your dose down as an option. Of course, they tell you to wait 4-6 weeks for full benefits, but for me I couldn't manage with the added anxiety given that was the condition I needed help with in the first place. Definitely talk with your doctor if this doesn't pass within a week or gets unbearable.
Have been on and off sertraline (Zoloft) many times; was up to 200mg/day most of that time.. Side effects usually appear in first few weeks and then disapear or you just don't notice them. What you are going thru is completely normal. Rememeber, these SSRIs really do take about 7-8 weeks to take full effect, although you may start to feel something before then, so keep going. You are on standard starting dose; stay on it for full 7-8 weeks and then evaluate whether it is helping you. May have to increase dose, but wait and see.
