Anxiety and Procrastination

I live in anxiety over things I've done or said in the past. I ruminate even about things that have happened 40yrs ago, yet I know I can't change that past.

I live in anxiety over the future even though I have no control about the future either.

With all of that anxiety, I have a hard time staying in the present without anxiety.

In my present I face procrastination and panic. It is like I am paralyzed. I don't do the things I need to get done until the last minute.

I try making lists, breaking things down into small tasks, asking for help and I'm not making improvements. I take medication. I have a therapist. I exercise every day. I pay attention to what I eat. I am lacking a social circle or just one reliable understanding friend.

And I am sad. Who has gotten through this with success? I am just feeling sad. It's like I never win.

Any thought and support are welcome. Thanks.

Well, I'm not exactly cured of anxiety, but I am stable, and I'm mostly content. The thing is, you mentioned not having a good social circle. You really need good friends, which will take a while, because again, people aren't the greatest, but don't be held back by that. You can make friends on here, you can join clubs, you can say how you feel, and eventually you will find the right people. Don't think of this as a "win-lose" situation, this is life, and things go wrong, but there are things that are going right, like you having a routine, exercising, and seeing a therapist. Additionally, everyone feels paralyzed at some point, and you have to remember that other people's preception of you isn't what you are, and you just need to get out there and participate in whatever, whether it be a book club, party, knitting class, just make time for hobbies that interest you. When you make time for what you are interested in, you don't have time to worry, and you get to do what you love.

Thank you for your reply. It's the kind of post that I'm going to keep with me as encouragement.

Hi well done for all the positive changes you have made . Remember it's a journey and there is no winning or losing . What I found helpful is if / when you have a rumination or worry thought is to write it down you can do it on your phone if that's easier and set a time each day for 20mins. Then go through your list of thoughts . Ask is this thought helpful ? , What can I learn from this ? . What changes can I make ?. Then take action on one thing . You can make a small as possible . Dose that make sense ?

Yes. The rumination is horrible. Most of the time I am sure the people involved have forgotten it long ago - whereas I haven't. Good suggestion.

I agree . Rumination is pretty common and alot of people do it . They most likely forgotten about it or do busy ruminating about their own stuff
