Shitty psychiatrist

So I went to see a psychiatrist for my anger and instead she took me off all my medications that actually made me feel good. She said I need to earn them back. I told her I used to (past tense) smoke weed and for that she took them away made me jump through hoops get a bunch of unnecessary test like 9 blood test and EKG and 3 pee test that's just crazy and it's not helping with my anger she called this morning and put me on my mood stabilizer but that's it and its going to help but not to the extent I need. I was finally feeling good and now I'm suffering while my life is falling apart I'm about one bad thing away from telling my psychiatrist to stuff it where the sun doesn't shine I haven't smoked weed in a long time and now she is pulling this bullshit I asked her to fix one thing that was it and instead she is making me feel like crap. And I don't know what to do and I feel like breaking down. I can't pass a drug test right now because her taking me off my meds made me need an outlet and I smoked weed again for the 1st time in months. I was doing so good too. What should I do any suggestions? Because I can go to my primary care doctor and get them back and I think that is better then telling her to f off.

You need to "earn" your medications? Wow, just wow. I have never heard of such a thing. I am thinking that there are good psychiatrists and there are not so good ones. This can be said for all professions, if the truth be known. I'm with Luna-Child on this one, start searching for a new psychiatrist.

That’s doesnt sound right , as others have said meds should never be stopped dead like that, sometimes these people think they know everything when actually they should be listening to the patient , I had a rheumatologist years ago who told me at a checkup that I no longer had the R A I’d been treated for for years and promptly took me off my meds which resulted in my pain going Sky high I went to see my own Dr, he overruled the rheumatologist and put me back on the meds, so as others have said I’d go and see your own GP, good luck

Yeah, what everyone else said! So wrong. You don't "earn" medicine. It's not candy and you're not a child. I'm sorry that happened!

Anger can be a result of meds too. One year on Effexor and I had anger and told never take again

Thank you for your post. 👍

It is so disappointing to read about unprofessional conduct from the last person you would think of doing so. 😧

If your psychiatrist isn't treating you as the subject matter expert of your own life and playing psyche games, I think it might be a time for a change.

First and foremost, you are the expert on your own life.

You live in your body, your circumstances, your environment day in and day out.

I don’t care how much education someone has or how many letters they have behind their name – absolutely nothing can make up for your lived experience.

You, and only you, will know if something is right or wrong for you.

If your psychiatrist does not treat you as the most knowledgeable person on your own life, then they are not giving you the credit you deserve.

Do not give your power to judge if something is right or wrong away to someone else, regardless of their position of power or authority. Psychological games are disgraceful and potentially dangerous to your health. Have you considered reporting the psychiatrist to the registering organization for their "unprofessional conduct"?

Before you change psychiatrists, definitely find a new one or consider a combination of a clinical psychologist for talking therapy and continue with medication prescribed by your primary care doctor.

All the best 🦘
