I had an appointment with my therapist today and she recommended I try and find a psychiatrist so that they can get me the right kind of meds I need. Has anyone been to a psychiatrist?? What are your thoughts?

Psychiatrist
dogmom07, A psychiatrist is your best bet in getting the right diagnosis as well as the right medication and dose to help you. Good Luck. x
I was scared to death of seeing a psychiatrist because my mom was so severely mentally ill! I was certain I would be next! But oh was I wrong! He was so kind and reassured me that I was just anxious and got depressed partly from the exhaustion of anxiety! Actually a safety net our brains have so we do not spazz to death from anxiety.
Be sure to shop around. Find one that you trust!
Hi Dogmom07,
You have so much to gain and little to lose by seeing a psychiatrist.
Think of a psychiatrist as a doctor who specializes in mental health in the same way an orthopedic surgeon is a doctor who specializes in fixing broken limbs.
The first visit involves lots of questions about your history, so be prepared to repeat a lot of what you might have told someone else. If you can put something down about your meds and who you have seen on paper in date order that will help you remember and relieve some of the 1st appointment stress.
