Just lowered my trintellix why is my anxiety worse

Yesterday i just lowered my trintellix from 15mg to 10 mg because we felt 15mg was too high. My anxiety is killing me. Isnt anxiety supposed to go down, not up? I've been doing DBT coping skills, taking klonopin and buspar but nothing is helping. I'm dying here, and getting dizzy from all the klonopin. What do I do?

Believe me, that doesn’t help when the anxiety is severe. I’ve tried it all.

I think with lowering any med can come with side effects. It may feel worse and not at all like you expected. If you have a routine and coping skills that works then keep to it.

Klonopin may be the reason for your worsening anxiety. It has been known to begin to cause increased anxiety once you hit tolerance, or if you are tapering to a lower dose.

Lowering meds like trintellix can cause severe anxiety. In one day - that’s a bit fast, but it does happen to some people.I hope you’re feeling better. I’m in the throes of, well, feeling unbearable, either due to lowering my meds or the original stuff coming back.

When you say “I” and “we” are you including your psychiatrist in that? Have you identified the triggers? What has DBT taught you to do during high anxiety?

Yes, I am Including my psychiatrist I don't do anything w/o him. DBT has taught me some coping skills (STOP, 5 senses, breathing and muscle skills an others) but I can't calm down enough to use them effectively enough.

Hi Joshgw. So sorry you're going through such a rough time. I would suggest you call your pharmacist immediately. They are the medication specialists. Then speak with your doctor. Sending you healing prayers🦋🌈🌻

It normally takes a few days and even a week or so before meds make a noticeable difference. More than likely your increased anxiety is due to your hypersensitivity and focusing on the changes and expecting it to happen immediately, all of which just increases your anxiety. Your anxious thoughts are just fueling the anxiety. It sounds counter-intuitive but the best thing you can do at the moment is to surrender, pretend you are being attacked by a bear and do nothing and let the anxiety/adrenalin dissolve and pass. Resist trying to engage with it or figure it out and just surrender to it knowing that you are safe, anxiety is harmless and it will pass. You can do it.

If I were you I would reach out to my doctor and speak about a slower taper. A drop from 15 mg to 10 mg is significant (if you have been on the med for any length of time). Feel better!
