Self-help books

Has anyone had a very positive experience using self-help books? I have tried quite a few and have gotten some wonderful things from each, but I think each is a bit lacking... has anyone got any recommendations for anxiety, depression, self love?

Has anyone ever tried "Inner Bonding"? I have been hearing great things from that program.

Hi SE, I am forever in learning mode :)My go to is YouTube. Each and every day, I find

yet another help tool in dealing with Anxiety/Depression/Self Love.

Knowledge makes it easier to deal with our issues.

Happy Saturday my friend I hope you find what works for you :) xx

A number of self help books have been helpful to me. I’ve learned to take from a book what helps me, and not necessarily go along with everything I’m reading.

This. Everyone is living a unique life so how can we expect one book to answer everything (nope not even the Bible!)

Read lots of self help books but the effects never outlast reading the last page. I find Therapy in a Nutshell on YouTube very useful. A very empathetic person who incorporates all the latest insights into her videos.

I have. She's great!

Never read Inner Bonding....if it helped you...then its a result.

I think most people would suggest the one i used to begin my recovery.Dr Claire Weekes “Self help for your Nerves” which i read back in 1984....it still popular amongst anxiety sufferers today. She wrote several books on this theme....which covers both anxiety and depression and more importantly...addresses self love, guilt, low self esteem.

Any book that gives you support or ideas when you are at home alone, at night, suffering from a symptom that never seems to be regarded as life altering, at your Doctors surgery or local hospital has got to be of some help.

Most, only seek answers, and reassurance in these moments..looking for helpful ideas to help through troubled times.

I have found David D. Burns's books Feeling Great and When Panic Attacks to be tremendously helpful in combating depression and anxiety. Dr. Burns advocates drug-free techniques to help you feel better which is a big part of the appeal.

I haven't had any luck with self help books except fot The Secret. Not even sure if that's a self help book but I enjoy reading it.

I read Claire weekes book and also dare by Barry mcdounagh probably spelt wrong . Google the dare response. They explained a lot and took away some if the fear . I still have anxiety never really found the route cause but I don't panic as much used to go hospital regularly for reassuring. Haven't been now for anything other than pain for about 6 years although the temptation is still there the panic that I need to go doesn't kick in like it used to I also used to like the anxiety guy on utube

Good luck in your research knowledge is power

Thank you everyone for your recommendations and advice! I am making a shopping list of books to get :)

I've been a self-help junkie for years, one of the benefits from it is that it helped me determine what kind of therapy I needed at the time on my journey and I still continue learning.

Some of the books that have helped me are: "At last a life and beyond" by Paul David, "DARE The new way to end anxiety" by Barry McDonagh, "Get out of your mind & into your life" by Steven C Hayes, "There is nothing wrong with you" by Cheri Huber, "Never good enough" by Monica Ramirez Basco, "Dying of embarrassment" by Barbara G. Markway and "I need your love - is that true?" by Byron Katie.

I also have found the articles on the tinybuddha website to very good and the website and articles of Dr. Jonice Webb to be very helpful. One of my main issues has been low-self-esteem and self-worth and I found the articles of Dr. Bernadette Sewell to be really insightful and I signed up for her "Break Free" program which I really like.

I haven't done the Inner Bonding program but I am on her email list and it looks like a good program.

Best to you on your journey.

I have found self help books refreshing and insightful. I read both books on anxiety and depression but unfortunately you cannot buy them now. That was about 40 years ago, but I found the books in easy clearly defined making them very easy to understand. Both books were paperback and had a black front page. They were called Depression how to cope and live with it and anxiety how to cope and live with it. Both were great and I was able to use them both for their words and actions. I wish you well with your books as I found them to be a life saver at the time.

I like How to Heal Yourself from Anxiety When No One Else Can by Amy B. Scher . I got it on Amazon. It's about energy healing. She has a YouTube channel too.
