A personal relationship anxiety problem

To make a long story short, last year I had a anxious breakdown, changed my med (work in progress still with the balance), asked my boyfriend at the time for space, quit my job and went to a clinic all in the space of a month.

Now, I've recently started seeing my boyfriend not boyfriend and mentally and physically we are on the same page, but, my anxiety is not. I still feel incredible and overwhelming bouts of anxiety that surface from my gut and sit with me, and to put it quite simply I don't know if I am the only one? How can you love someone so deeply and emotionally and physically connect but then still experience anxiety? I need to know that someone has been through this and has made it out on the otherside.

Please, anyone, help.

I had high-functioning anxiety and social anxiety for years that affected my personal relationships even when I met the lady who would become my wife and long-term relationship. I knew I had issues, sought help and medication and was diagnosed with GAD but I continued to have anxiety. My wife was understanding and supportive which helped. Finally I realized that I was really dealing with social anxiety disorder and c-ptsd from growing up in an emotionally repressive family environment with lots of shaming and no emotional support. I was also bullied as a kid in school which led to the social anxiety. I also found I had been taught the wrong way in how to deal with anxiety and that the real way is to learn how to accept the anxious thoughts and feelings, let them flow through and no longer fear them. I wound up finding a therapist who specialized in treating trauma and c-ptsd who used emdr therapy and was able to process my suppressed emotions. I also found the DARE Anxiety book, youtube videos and phone app helpful for learning how anxiety really works and how to deal with it and heal from it.

Most likely, you're anxiety about your boyfriend is really from suppressed and unaddressed thinking and emotions from your past and a sign that you have healing and self-acceptance that you need to do to live with more presence in your life and relationship.
