is it just me but why can’t tv normalize covid instead of every commercial everyone’s happy SOcIALIZING with no masksand carrying onlike they don’t have a care in the world. i’m exhausted from self-protecting and stressed that my college boys won’t have a normal social life ever. i envy the states that have vaccine checks for restaurants, gyms, theatre like california and new york ….

would love someone’s perspective …gratitude for this forum and the comfort it brings

I feel the same. Commercials always present a false picture of real life. Everyone is happy and enjoying themselves with friends or spouses. There is no sickness, unemployment, depression, drug/alcohol addiction, or indeed any type of problem. I guess if there were, the products wouldn't sell.

In the time of covid it is even more grating than usual and it would be nice to see some people with masks on. It would reflect life as it is today where everyone is tired and worn out from covid. Don't hold your breath, though.

I don't think it will be the kind of endemic where we have to wear masks all the time but I think it is a good addition during flu season. I will certainly be more aware of what is happening.

If they are generally healthy you shouldn't be scared especially if they are vaccinated which I assume they are. What people primarily on the left are missing is the fact that being outside is safe. Really safe. It really isn't a problem. Those happy maskless faces are possible outside. Particularly true if most if not all are vaccinated. I have been meeting people outside since mid 2020 and none of us have gotten covid. (TBH the biking and running swedish study didn't make any sense to me. I only followed it to make others feel comfortable.) The only exception is crowded events or groups of drunk people that may be unvaccinated. . Even in the winter we go hiking. Proper gear is key! I don't even worry about getting a beer and lunch after because I know everyone is vaccinated. The risk is absolutely worth it for your boys (and you for that matter) because if they get Omicron they are highly unlikely to get much more than mild symptoms and being too cautious is just not worth it.

What I find interesting and possibly a silver lining is that Omicron and delta have been fighting for dominance. Omicron seems to be winning. So theoretically we could enter a phase where delta fades away and there are enough mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated with antibodies (assuming they aren't compromised and died) that it will also fade away. Nothing absolute because a. hospitals are still in crisis and b. immunity doesn't last forever. That is some hope though. We should know better around the middle to end of January. That is not that far off.

I get my information from in depth journalists that keep in touch with many experts and the FDA/CDC information. They provide multiple sides because not even all scientists agree. When you do not listen to people who are doing the comprehensive research you really don't know how much they are reacting vs analyzing. Most TV anchors and commentators fall into the latter category. You end up with a lot of opinion. I believe the left to be overly cautious and the right to overly careless.

What we need right now is for rich countries to step up and provide vaccines to less fortunate countries. This is what will minimize the risk more than anything else. Who knows what a new variant will look like. A bit frustrating because as you can see they can't even agree on climate measures.

I'll add that new shows do typically have regular testing and a vaccine mandate assuming they even need a mandate. I don't think their are too many actors and directors that would risk it. They do take additional safety measures too. So you do see new shows with unmasked actors. I was curious so I looked it up.

I was always told to 'Follow the Money' when you wanted to know the root of a political, or materialistic promotion. Add's need to make money, so they show what everyone is missing, and also inadvertently encouraging people to seek that normalcy of socializing and spending money doing it. It is now a given that there is no longer any control over Covid or Covidiots, so the moneymakers are capitalizing on it. You can only take measure to protect yourself. The country is ravaged by an out of control Omicron Covid, that even though the excuse is it's not as lethal... you still get sick... and long covid afterwords. Which I have, and got this before the vaccine was out, and it permanently changes you, even though I got the double vaccine afterwords...I had hoped for cooler heads to prevail in the politics of this stuff, and for some common sense and decency...but... it is what it is.

Who is capitalizing on this? Not hospitals. Their staff has left and they turn away more profitable non-elective surgery. Not airlines. Not the media -- they have plenty of other news like fires and insurrections. Not schools. Not politicians... I mean this is too unpredictable for anyone to come out unblemished. (but yes I think the feds totally screwed up testing). Pharma makes money no matter what but they aren't making as much on this. Insurance isn't. Who have I missed? The fact that this is less lethal doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. Yes, less people are going into the hospitals but you must agree that having everyone at home sick is also an emergency of a different sort. Peak is expected around mid-late jan. That is not that far off. Then it should die down. Who know if there will be another one. Someone said today Omicron is like delta on steroids meaning it is fast to spread and also fast to heal.

Sorry you got it.

It's nice to switch on the TV with out having the constant reminders that we are living through a pademic and it good for me to have a bit of escapism .The pademic won't last forever it will get better . The strains are getting weaker so eventually it just be like another type of flu .

It would be nice if it worked this way but it doesn't. "The strains are getting weaker so eventually it just be like another type of flu "

Do you think it's going to get worse then ? If history is anything to go by things always improve in the end . I would rather think like that then thinking we are all going to be doomed .

I can't predict the future. Mutations in viruses are a mix of evolution and random luck. Delta is getting pummeled by Omicron because it is way more contagious but that is just a characteristic. With climate change and encroachment we will see more pandemics more often. What we need to learn is how to deal with it. In 2020 a playbook was available and it was not used. I hope that this has taught us a lot for the next one. I think it has but it all depends on who is in power. Regardless. I am sure you will, like me, wear a mask more often. Maybe socialize outside more. Scrutinize restaurants more. I don't think it means burying your head in the sand. One lesson is that lockdowns and banning travel does more harm than good. I doubt we will go through that again.

I used to think climate change would doom us and it probably will kill a lot of people. But if you flip the script you can be more optimistic. Look at it this way... the seas are already too warm. You can't just cool them down overnight. Floods are inevitable. Done deal. So places that are smart like New Orleans are accepting that reality and dealing with it on mother nature's terms. San Francisco has not accepted it and they could pay the price unless they wake up. My point it I want to be in a place where they have accepted it and are doing something!

I was just talk about covid not global warming and other natural disasters or human made disasters . Yes more people are catching covid but being far less sick . As long it keeps in that direction people lives will improve as far as lockdowns and other restrictions is concerned.

Climate change is very relevant. No lockdowns but 4K flights were canceled today globally. That has ripple effects. Chicago schools are closed. That has major ripple effects. Hospital staff are getting sick. This is worse than any flu in my lifetime.

Yes it's worse then any flu in our lifetime but not going back throughout history . We can't change what has happened in regards to covid but we can learn from it , in terms of science and medicine . More education and better green solutions for the future .

Anyway it hasn't really got anything to do with my original point of not needing to see everyone wearing masks on TV and adverts .

I not saying other people are not allowed to disagree . For myself I just don't need a reminder every time I turn on the TV it really does not help my anxiety or depression .

You need to start streaming! I read or listen to news. My entertainment has no commercials and I pick and choose. I watch a lot less too.
