Methylcobalamin. I took a high dose for my fibromyalgia. I also took methylfolate with it, but normal folic acid is an option.

I tried the Cyanocobalamin b12 first and saw no improvement whatsoever, even at a really high dose.

Thank you. Any suggestions on a good brand?

I started with Jarrows and it worked for me, but the price doubled over the years.

Next I tried Best Naturals. It worked for me too but was cheaper. I can't remember why I didn't order it again.

Now I'm taking a b12 & folic acid version by YrHealth. It seems to be working so far. It's one less pill for me to take because the vitamins are combined.

And this is the Methylcobalamin form in Jarrow?

All of them were the methyl version. It's the only one I buy because the cyan one had no effect on me. You could try the cyan version and see how it goes. It's cheaper and available on the high street, so I wish it worked for me!

I take otc b12 and just now learning about the different forms. I am a plant based eater so supplements of the B's are imperative. Been wondering if this has been part of the reason for exasperated anxiety/panic attacks.

Hi Dkd. :) This isn't about the B12 but if you don't eat meat you might want to look into a taurine supplement. Maybe do some research on vegan diets and taurine. This is a good article to start with - wise-geek.com/what-is-tauri....

I was a vegetarian for 15 years back in the '90s and early 2000's and researched a lot in order to insure I was getting enough nutrients. I researched it again lately and I noticed that few, if any, of the vegan sites I read even mention taurine. This is a crucial amino acid and a taurine deficiency can have an effect on anxiety among other problems one might have.

I'm glad you posted about the B12, I'm also looking for information on it and @sunrisesunset has good info. This is a great discussion subject IMO. 👍

I don't understand what you mean by "@sunrisesunset". I tried searching it, but no luck. Thanks.

I was tagging the user whose username is sunrisesunset. I don't know if adding the "@" sign before the username works on this site, other sites use that to notify a user that someone has mentioned them.

I've read that's supposed to work, but I can never make a go of it.

I heard that we can store up to 3 years worth of b12 in our liver. Maybe your stores have run out/are running out and it's causing anxiety/panic attacks? A quick search online showed it's possible. Try looking for "b12 deficiency panic attack".

If the cyan version isn't working for you, your b12 levels have been dropping because you're not boosting them back up. Apparently some people have a genetic defect so the methyl ones work but the normal ones don't. You could have this problem. Try the methyl one and see how it goes.

I found out recently one reason for B-12 deficiency is a side effect of a drug prescribed for acid reflux.

"The studies reviewed in this article clearly show that omeprazole therapy will decrease the absorption of vitamin B12 by preventing its cleavage from dietary proteins."

Just saw this after NBP commented. I've been using the methyl version which is an active form and my stomach absorbs it pretty well according to my bloodwork. Also I make sure to eat enough red meat.

Not a red meat eater. Plant based.
