What’s the craziest fashion trend you ever rocked?

I had a great weekend editing my novel. But now it's back to work tomorrow, and that's always a huge bummer. So I thought I throw a fun question out there as a reprieve for whatever you may be going through in your life.

The craziest fashion trend I probably rocked was back in the 90's when Clueless was popular. I wore plenty of short pleated skirts with knee-high socks and chunky shoes. I remember walking into work at the art shop, and my boss saying, that's an unusual outfit. I'm still not sure what he meant by that.

Oh dear lord - smock tops from the 70’s. I was just a child but still those are just so ugly. My friend had a madly hip plaid pantsuit. With big chunky shoes. (She was more fashionable than I was. Or really her parents were more trendy.)

They were pretty ugly. Now they could be considered maternity wear. The 70's was all about the sexual revolution, so I think the smock top might have been birth control.

I think the smock top was more the “nature girl” country girl idea. But it’s definitely birth control especially when you wear a turtleneck sweater underneath!

Oh yes- I remember wearing a bright pink and blue checked smock top to my brother's wedding. With chunky platform soled shoes 🙉

Reminds me of the Outsiders. I loved that book. I memorized Robert Frost's poem all because of the movie.

I can picture you:) adorable look.

I liked the tight to the leg pants with the bell bottom flair. Always in a platform shoe to tower over people.

I also liked the casual look of stirrup pants and a long top.

Halter tops were another good one:)

❤️🐬

😁I wore stirrup pants in the early sixties when I lived in New England. They were go to’s for cold weather, but they were called ski pants then.

Dolphin14 profile image
Dolphin14 in reply toIsinatra

Oh that's interesting on the different name. They will be back before we know it under another name. They actually don't make sense anymore. What was the point of the stirrups??

❤️🐬

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply toDolphin14

Without the stirrups they would have been called “knee highs”. Lol

Dolphin14 profile image
Dolphin14 in reply toIsinatra

Hahaha... some of them didn't fit me. I'm tall. They wouldn't stretch up enough.

I prefer the leggings and yoga pants of today

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply toDolphin14

The material of leggings today (a staple of my wardrobe, too) has less chance of riding up. Fashion finally got it right. 😉

Agree. Leggings are the way to go

Your post is going to be a juicy one. I’m all in. 🙌🏼Your outfit was too young for me then, but they were so cute. And your boss, I’m sure, was very reserved in his comment. 😉

Bell bottoms and ugly prints as a child (thanks Mom) Sweatshirts I cut myself. And I still rock leggings and a long tops. Pretty much live in them.

My pants were not as big but close to the picture shown 😂😂😂😂I was like that in the late 90’s

How’d those work for you? 😂

alfreddy7 profile image
alfreddy7 in reply toIsinatra

I used to walk a lot so the bottom of the pants were ripped and full of dirt or mud 😂😂😂

😂 A definite statement of coolness.

Absolutely or when they got caught in the bicycle chains.

This response is bringing me back memories of my huge overalls, chain wallet, and Doc Martens. Back when girls could still be completely dressed and look cool. Now it's mid-drifts, tube tops, crop tops, etc (at school of all places). I'm always arguing with my daughter about her clothes. I blame Britney Spears. Sorry Britney fans. This one is a sensitive topic at home right now.

Hmmm 🤔 and making it ok to let the underwear hang out. I’ve noticed adults in prominent positions dress that way. We can object, but there’s not much we can do about it.

in reply toLadyZen

I believe we just talked about how small the Olympic uniforms were on the women of olympics i.e. volleyball competition or gymnist and divers. I know my granddaughters wears stuff like that and it bothers me. There are weirdos 👀out there. But she says as long as it covers the important things it's good.🤔 And she says she feels comfortable in the clothes.😕

Children wearing revealing clothes can indeed cause problems. The male population at that age (how do I say this delicately) are in the grips of nature. After the age of 18, well, all bets are off for parents influencing them.

in reply toIsinatra

My grand daughter is only 13. Can't imagine a man going ape over a young in like that. Makeup doesn't help situation either.

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply to

That’s a dark subject in itself. Adult men targeting the young. It happens, it’s real, and it’s more than a problem.

in reply toIsinatra

There's h€!! To pay if I see any man going after a minor.

My daughter didn't speak to me for days because she's smart and knew I had a very valid point. She said if she was a boy, I wouldn't have a problem with how she dresses. And I said damn right, because her brother and the boys at school don't wear crop tops and their clothes don't expose body parts. I explained to her, there are two extremes of the argument that are both flawed, girls wearing revealing clothes to prove a point, and girls being covered up completely because of the excuse that men can't control themselves. So it's not about the clothing itself that is the issue, but it's about having the same and equal expectations and opportunities for girls that boys have.

in reply toLadyZen

A lot of young female influences. Miley Cyrus, Brittany Spears and others shamelessly put on a show for us all.

I used to make my own so I could get them as wide as possible 😂

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra

I always loved the padded shoulders from the 40’s (?). So I jumped on it when they re-emerged in the early 80’s. The bigger and wider the better. Thought they made my waist look smaller. 😂When I look back on it, though, it probably wasn’t my waist that people were focused on. Had the big hair to go with it, too. Atleast I thought I did. My hair seems to be missing in old photos. Never quite made it in. 😂

in reply toIsinatra

My aunt's were that way too. The beehive hairs. I swore I seen bees flying in them.😂

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply to

My older sisters sported those beehives. 🥴My “do” became an inflated Farrah Fawcett. My apologies to Farrah.

in reply toIsinatra

Farrah was an icon for boys.😜 Lol

Brings back memories

Elephant bottoms and button down striped shirts.😜. I remember the triangle halter tops my sister wore. Wasn't much there. Lol.

Loved those parachute 🪂 pants!

When I lost a button on my shirt I just put a safety pin on it. Same with the winter coats the the zipper broke or didn't zip up all the way to your neck.

When I was a teenager in the 70s we used to wear grey tights with white knee length socks over them . And short skirts. Not because they looked good but to rebel against school uniform 😂

I don’t get why people hate sweater vest. I totally rocked a cream colored one with a teal flannel skirt. It was awesome 😎

I always wanted to rock the clothes that Cher wore. Hair, makeup…absolutely fabulous, Dahling…

I went with a mate to a 70s disco night in London a few years ago. I was dressed as Geoffrey from Rainbow TV programme and my mate was dressed as John Travolta. My car broke down on the way, and the looks we were given by passers by waiting for the aa tow truck were so funny. To make it worse, we were nowhere near the club, and people were thinking "why the hell are they dressed like that? !!! 😀

Isinatra profile image
Isinatra in reply to

😂

in reply toIsinatra

Not sure if you guys and gals in America know what TV programme Rainbow is, but Geoffrey was the "iconic father" of the puppets zippy george and bungle😀 if not, look it up on YouTube. Classic British children's TV programme.
