I’m writing on behalf of my wife who is in one of her low places. She’s 69 now and since her menopause has had periods once or twice a year when she retreats from the world sometimes to her bedroom. Sometimes an anti depressant helps but it is still a puzzle what the underlying process is. We are both in the mental health field and are convinced the triggers are not psychological though the effects are. Invariably she has a virus feels physically rubbish and then gets anxious and very low.
Has anyone got similar experience ? And has anyone found a treatment that addresses the inflammatory responses that seem to go hand in hand with my wife’s condition.
Thank you for your attention. Making headway with our GPs is very hard especially during COVID

I happen to be a 50 year old woman embarking on menopause, it's a very real change. I was getting heavy periods for about a year and now I haven't had one in 3 or 4 months. I also have severe depression and anxiety. I truly believe that mental health issues in women really have a lot to do with our hormones and when we're getting our time if the month. I think it's somewhat normal to feel more depressed and sad and emotional when we're getting our periods because let's face it, we're losing blood. I would always feel less motivated and active when that time of month comes around, it's a cycle. It's been helpful to me to read some books by Christiane Northrup like Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom.
Hi Tess4 I read your post which your husband kindly wrote for you with such sadness as the menopause is a period of life which does not get much understanding or support it is also a process which can be a long drawn out process for some women
I have just begun to enter that world and at times feel very alone with the symptoms..
I don’t know if your wife has approached the GP about how she has been feeling if not then she should as it’s important that she gets the support she deserves l recently spoke to my GP about as it was making me feel so bad that l felt suicidal l don’t know if your wife watched Davina McCall documentary about the Menopause on Channel 4 if not it’s worth a watch it gave me the confidence to talk to my GP about my current symptoms l hope you are able to get the support you need take care
