Driving phobia

Hey guys I have really bad driving anxiety it prevents me from going on three ways enjoying trip some occasions and feeling like I cannot leave home without feeling stressed somewhere. I never used to be like this until I was 17 years old when I was driving back home from Las Vegas with my friend and father I had a full-blown panic attack and in the middle of the desert going like I was gonna die really traumatize me to the core. I was put on benzo’s right after that so just suppressed everything I didn’t get rid of it which is frustrating but I’m really to join a support group now and I have a therapist but can anyone else relate to me and how you’re scared of filling your sensations because you’re scared of having a panic attack away from Quantico safety?

I used to get panic attacks almost every time at the thought of having to drive anywhere that was more than like 30-40 minutes away, especially on boring highways. I have bad ADD and focusing for a long time on one thing without being able to take a break or occasionally stop focusing on it for a few minutes is super stressful to me. Street driving never caused this for me becuase the amount of different things I needed to shift my focus between satisfied my ADD but highway would flare up my anxiety . I dont know if your siutaion is anything like mine was, but your not alone. Driving can be super stressful.

My brother, like me, suffers from anxiety. He had this same phobia for a long while. He finally got some help and was put on medication (I think zoloft) and it has been under control ever since. I hope you feel better...you are not alone!
