For those of you I scared of worried with my post yesterday I'm sorry. I had my appointment with my therapist today and we made a lot of solid progress and I'm in a better place today. I appreciate all the concern and comments because if definitely showed me that the people of this website are a very caring bunch that I can be honest with and.open up to when I need to get things out. It also showed me that my words can impact others in different ways so I need to be more thoughtful of how I wore things.

So glad to hear you’re feeling better today

Yes, I'm glad you feel better. Dealing with severe depression is rough, and sometimes some people really don't understand. There's been a lot of times I've felt such despair, wondering if I'm ever going to get any better or am I getting worse. I try to go to the library and check out self help books. Sometimes I learn more from reading a book than going to therapy, but therapy can be very helpful as well.

Hi Googledolls fan. Be careful with the self-help books. There are so many of them and each promises, implicitly or explicitly that THEY hold THE answer to whatever problem you have. If the solution to the kinds of things we in this group are dealing with was one-size-fits-all there wouldn’t be shelves and shelves of these books. There would be one book. I’m not saying that you can’t get some good ideas from these publications, but I am cautioning you to have realistic expectations about what that are and what they’re not.

I agree with Googoodollsfan. I sometimes learn more from reading a book than from the actual therapy, but I only read self help books recommended by my therapist. So far they have all been written by research doctors (md or PhD).

That’s a good idea. If a therapist that I’ve trusted has recommended a specific book to me I’ve generally read it. It’s when I’ve gone into the self help section of a bookstore or library having no idea what title I was looking for when I’ve sometimes felt overwhelmed by all of the choices.

Glad to hear it, Dragon!
