Hey there I haven't been on here in a awhile sorry about that. I just been thinking a lot and struggling with different things. I just wanted to ask a question I've been obsessing over. We all have our own individual struggles which you can call inner demons. Bad habits, addictions, obsessions or anything in regards to struggles. Do your inner demons define you? Are they you and your in denial? I don't know........that's why I'm asking. Sorry if this is weird to ask or to complicated to answer. I just needed to know. Sorry again.
Hey FaithWarrior, it has been a while. No question is ever weird if it's something that bothers you. First of all, we all have our own struggles/battles or as you call it inner demons.
But by no means does that define the person you are. When we start thinking like that we
allow the negativity that Anxiety puts into our mind, to control us. We are in control of our thoughts and actions and not our demons.
We must focus on the good qualities in each and every one of us. As we talk with others on this site, we seem to have a similar personality of kindness and caring. We don't live in denial in who we are. Anxiety/Depression is a sickness and like any other kind of illness that
doesn't define them. You are okay my friend. You are a good man and don't let the lies that
I appreciate you responding. 🙂Thank you for reassuring me that my mental illness is not me. Sometimes I just don't know. I question everything about me, The good in me and the mistakes and struggles in my life and then my mental disorder jumps in and throws me off. But thank you for responding!! Yes this site has caring people I'm blessed for that. Thank you!
Yes they do. How we respond to our “inner demons”, the choices we make during the struggle all have a direct impact - and therefor even without intention - define us. Either by the way people perceive us or how we perceive ourselves.
If you are aware of your inner demons then you are also aware that you have an Inner Spirit in you that tells you what is right, and wrong. I have been wanting to smoke today, but my Inner Spirit knows that will set me back, so I listened to the Spirit and not the lousy demon.
Notice that I Capitalized "Spirit" and I did not "demons". That's because my Inner Spirit is stronger than the demons.
Listen to your Inner Spirit and tell those demons to kick rocks.
I also get lots of disturbing Intrusive thoughts, but I IMMEDIATELY shoot those thoughts down using that same Spirit, because it tells me what is right.
You have the compass within you, just follow it. They start to leave you alone after they figure out that the Spirit inside you is stronger.
something linked me to your post... caught my eye...
first - no question is EVER too weird - except for the question un-asked!!!
.
short answer - yes - your inner demons define you - in that they leave an impact on you. they do NOT define who you are!!! but they always leave a mark, and that mark is PART of who you are.
read that again if you need - be clear - they do NOT define you - but they DO mold you.
they only define you on the whole - if you let them run your life. but we are always the masters of our own domain. if you give your demons power they can takeover, and can define you. But you alone have the power!!!
you have the power to surrender power to your demons. and you have the power to yank it back from them! YOU alone are in control - in control to surrender control, and in control to re-assert control.
i know many demons. they're nasty MF'ers. ugly bastards. but they all have 1 thing in common! a weakness in common!! their kryptonite? - the open exposed light of day. they're like vampires - hiding in the dark - darkness gives them strength - but YOU give them power.
bring them into the light of day - and they will die. some faster than others. some will fight hard. but in the end - they CAN NOT survive in the light of day.
bring them out - show them; inspect them; share them with others for assistance - all demons are known to sooo many. all can be defeated. but you have to be ready to fight. you have to be ready to ask for help.
you said you believe in god. ask god for help. ask friends and family for help. ask strangers for help. if god doesn't help - keep asking - god's really F'g busy these days! you keep asking until you find people willing to help.
you CAN excise your demons. wear their scars proudly, and embrace them as a victor in a battle hard fought! you are the sum off all you are, all you've been. the demon's scars - can be made smaller.. but they'll always be part of you.
