I recently tapered off fluoxetine over a few weeks due to chemotherapy and being concerned about mixing meds. I was doing really great and thought I was finally going to see the back of the fluoxetine after years of taking them. 3 or 4 weeks ago I felt the depression creeping back and then crash. I now feel worse than ever. My chest is pounding and my stomach constantly churning. I realised I can't function without fluoxetine so restarted them 2 weeks ago. Am i right in thinking the first few weeks are the worst?

Feeling dreadful after tapering off fluoxetine.
A year ago I had a very bad time with depression, took fluoxetine, it took me six months to feel anything like normal, I am on 40mg, and intend staying on maybe a lower dose when I feel the time is right, I feel fine now and happy and interested with my home, I had all the worst side effects going, tremble, fast heart beat, couldn’t eat, lost 3 stone in weight, I stuck it out, I wasn’t sleeping, but I feel so good now it was worth the wait.
I had also been on fluoxetine, many years ago, and I stopped taking them Doctor wanted me to slowly come off, it was the biggest regret of my life.
I am sure you will be fine with the fluoxetine and chemo, many people get depression due to some sort of illness, that was my problem, I had several things wrong one after the other.
Stick it out you will get better, but everyone is different, I don’t think you can put a time on recovery.
Take care I hope you start to turn a corner soon be patient. XX
Hi there. Obviously you have spoken with your GP? I get what you are saying though. Yes, things should start to pick up. I'm off fluoxitine now and on citalopram. Been 6 weeks and I'm still struggling to be honest. Try stick with them. But please let your doctor know where your at x
