I am new to this community as I have never really found the need to join a forum like this but I am hoping to find this beneficial in my mental health journey.
I have been put on citalopram and had doses increased but I found that I ended up being really angry and snappy towards my partner which isn’t what I want. I’ve had a phone call with the doctor and they want to wean me off citalopram and put me on fluoxetine, I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on what to expect and how it makes them feel.

Deep depression is a serious mental characterized by apersistant and unresponsive mood and a lost of interest and pleasure, most often accompagnied by a range of symptoms including changes in our eating habits, we also expereince sleep disturbance, fatigue loss of energy, lack of concentration, inappropriate thoughts of guilt, and morbid thought of death.
Citalopram is one of the first SSRIs introduce in the market is a raceremic of the S-enantiomer and the enanciomer in terms of efficiency. Citalopram is more effictive than reference like paroxetine or reboxetine but worse than escitalopram.
In terms of side effects, citalopram is more acceptable than older ailments against deep depression such as tricyclic antidepressants.
Fluoxitine is among the first new generation of antidepressantts commonly prescribed for the treatment of depression. However, the results of studies comparing fluoxitine to others antidepressants are questionable. Compared to other new generation anti-depressants, significant differences in efficiency and safety have been identified between fluoxitine and some older antidepressants.
Multiple differences in evaluating the efficiency of both drugs exit depending on the patient medical condition and the psychologic environment he or she may be is living in.
It is therefore difficult to draw clear and clinically meaningful conclusions.
Further reliable information regarding the respective safety profiles in term of proven clinical medical side effects of both drugs is needed.
Finally, what i personally advise is to stricly follow your doctor's recommandations
Both Citalopram and Fluoxetine are SSRIs . They work by increasing the serotonin (brain chemical) in your brain. There are slight differences between the different SSRIs and one may work better for you than another. Some of them (particularly paroxetine) are difficult to stop- you have to wean off them slowly. Citalopram usually does not cause problems stopping. I would not be worried about switching from Citalopram to Fluoxetine. Fluoxetine (Prozac) also usually does not cause problems when you stop it. It is generally more energizing than Citalopram and may have a little weight loss associated with it.
Hello. I have been on Citalopram for 7 years and recently my anxiety / depression have been so debilitating. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I am wondering if she may try to switch me to a different medication. I increased my dosage of Citalopram about 3 months ago and I really haven't seen much improvement.
That’s what happened with me, although I’ve only been on citalopram since the start of the year and I didn’t notice a positive difference, it just made me feel worse. Maybe you should switch your tablets if they aren’t working very well.
She didn't want me to get off Citalopram because she was worried it would make me feel worse. But she did add Wellbutrin to my medications. Hoping this will help!
Wondering how you made out. I was on citalopram for about 5 years but then went through a stressful move and found it wasn't really working. I am now on prozac. Week 1 was less anxiety but now on week 2 no appetite. I want to talk to doctor to see if I should wait it out.
