Fluoxetine- has anyone taken it and is it beneficial? 17 yo female. What medications do you take, if any, or does anyone know of any that may work well for me? Thanks

Hi. I took fluoxetine at 17 years old also when my Grandad had cancer and passed away as it got me very down. I definitely found they boosted my mood. Since then I’ve taken citalopram for anxiety and I’m currently on sertraline. I’ve found both have helped ease my symptoms. After a while the citalopram did stop having the same effect as when I first started it, hence the fact I’m now on sertraline. I’ve been very lucky and haven’t had any extreme side effects from any of these tablets, but just be wary of them. Good luck!

No one can answer your questions as meds work differently for everyone. I am on sertraline which work well for me but the only way is to try one and see. I had to change this twice before I found this. x

I agree with hypercat54 as everyone will react to the same drug differently. It's best to just talk to your doctor about your experiences and how it's effecting you in case they need to adjust your meds.

Citalopram works well for me.

I am on fluoxetine and it works great for me. I tried citalopram and sertraline before but they both caused sleep disturbances. I can actually sleep on fluoxetine and feel calmer. It did take about 4-6 weeks to get the full effect though so if you are looking for a quicker fix I would suggest buspirone. I am on that as well and it is fast acting but not addictive.
