Waking Up with Anxiety

The last six months of my life have been some of the hardest I have ever encountered. I started having night terrors, flashbacks, and insomnia... but the hardest part of dealing with it all is that, when I wake up with it, I can't shake it for the rest of the day. Does anyone have any tips for how to shake off the negativity that comes with these issues? People around me have not been very helpful and have mostly said, "it's just a dream" "it's just a flashback", and it makes me feel like the things I'm feeling are invalid.

Literally any help would be appreciated.

I used to have dreadful mornings: aches, pains and all sorts of 'buzzing' sensations. What worked for me was relaxing as best as I could, facing the feelings and accepting them. They weren't pleasant, but I could still go to work, get things done and eventually the feelings settled down and went away. For me, giving the feelings less and less power over my morning and day allowed me to carry on.

I still have bad mornings and days, but I'm not afraid of my feelings (at least not usually). I recommend picking up Dr. Claire Weeks book 'Hope and Help for Your Nerves.' You will find it quite illuminating.

I agree with Pugglesworth about facing the feelings and accepting them. It's not deal with them temporarily. You have to tell yourself that you can handle this as you try to let those feelings go. I know how awful it is to live with anxiety. If someone doesn't have it, they will never really understand how bad it is!
