Waking up with anxiety

Does anyone else wake up with severe anxiety? I have so much trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

Yes. My understanding is the body’s level of cortisol is highest in the morning? It’s a struggle.

Cortisol levels peak at 8a.m. and some say this is the reason for high anxiety on waking up. There is an 'antidote' to cortisol found in green tea called L -Theanine, it's worth trying a cup of green tea first thing, I sort of think it helps but it may be auto suggestion.

L-Theanine doesn't work for me in concentrated tablet form only in brewed green tea bags.

But I prefer Claire Weekes' explanation that early morning anxiety peak is caused by the sudden realisation of all the tasks and worries we must face - and of course as we have anxiety disorder those worries are multiplied ten fold.

So when you wake lie on your back and do the breathing exercise for 5 or 10 minutes that releases natural tranquilizers. Breathe in slowly and fill your lungs, hold it for 5 seconds, then breathe out slowly through pursed lips. Then repeat and repeat....

Or if you want to cheat and you wake up feeling over anxious just take half a Valium/diazepam tablet (2.5mg) and 9 times out of 10 that knocks it on the head for the day. Maybe in the u.s. you could try a xanax instead of valium but I don't know because doctors are not allowed to prescribe xanax in the u.k.

Yes you are not alone. I do this sometimes I wake up with anxiety about work. I take Ashwagandha and drink matcha green tea to calm me.

Hi yes this would happen to me all the time last year every single day I would wake up shaking my mom would have to feed me breakfast because I was like spaced out I couldn't swallow the food either and my mom would get upset so you can imagine my anxiety would spike up. I would wake up thinking I can't do this anymore its too much its the hardest thing ever and I have a lot of respect for people who go through this on a daily basis this means we are extremely strong people believe this! I don't know your religion and I don't mean to offend anyone but I am a christian since I was a child but recently I have found that praying or talking to God is my peace my comfort zone he is the one who gives me strength to fight this. I am not going to lie I have my days where I get anxiety or get sad but please believe me God gives you strength. I am no one to tell you what to do of course but I can help with some advice in my experience because I have been there! PRAY please just talk to him let him know what you feel what's hurting your needs your necesities, to give you strength and peace in your mind. I pray for everyone here on a daily. I don't know you guys but I feel like I do because we go through the same thing. I hope you don't get upset because of this post because I know some people have different beliefs and that's okay I respect that just giving my advice hoping it helps everyone. God Bless you :)

OMG yes about 2 1/2 years ago before I got help I would wake up and every morning be so anxious I would be gagging or wrenching for at least a good 15 mins all the whole trying to get ready for work at 5:30am
