Am I rightfully upset?

So I'm nearly 17, still living with my grandparents since i've not graduated school, and everytime I take my pills and they notice how many I'm holding, they gawk and say I need to eventually wean off of them. But it makes me kind of upset, y'know? Cause i can barely stay safe on my meds, if i were off them, there's no doubt i'd be trying to kill myself rn. Hell, I was writing my goodbye letter earlier and my meds were into my system. But its like, you know that it might literally be dead if I'm off them, or just miserably depressed. And need i remind you, I'm doing the best now I have been in a realllllyyyyyy long time. But on their side, ig they just want me to function normally, but even with medications and coping skills, support systems, irregardless, I'm still not in the best place. I dunno, what are your guys' opinions? Am i rightfully upset?

A lot of the time people don’t understand mental/emotional illness unless they’ve experienced it themselves. Some will never get it. You know yourself best so stay true to yourself and you will be fine. I would be upset too. It’s so hard to feel misunderstood and we need all the support we can get so that is upsetting. I know I need my meds too and although I am struggling it would be way worse without them. You are doing the best you can and sometimes we have to stop and give ourselves the credit we deserve for perseverance in this tough life we live. You are a beautiful person and I hope you know this. Be good to yourself; try not to beat yourself up, okay? ((((((Hug)))))) ❤️

I just woke up, lol. Its going pretty normal so far. wby?

Why take them in view of your grandparents? I don't feel the need to involve anyone but those who need to know ( GP etc)

It is difficult not to be defined by your medication ( I work in a MH hospital) and there are too many people there to give advice, without being asked, those without any experience themselves of living through it, who have all the qualifications but really no idea.

Remember, you are 17, you are going to experience teenage angst, MH problems or not, try not to be defined by this depression and emotions will naturally ebb and flow throughout your life ahead. You will get through this, you will and look back at this time as it is, a moment in time. Take your recommended dose, don't feel the need to share with all, unless you NEED to.

It's because they love and care about you. Taking your meds privately is the answer.

they won't allow that. They'll think I'm cheeking them.

Remind then you are nearly 17 and in a years time you will be a legal adult and you need to be treated as such. Tell them this is an invasion of your privacy. You need to to do this in a calm adult way.

The other is to hide it in a way they can't get you on. I presume they don't supervise you 24/7? You could say your doctor has said to change the times. You could keep a few meds in your pocket and take them when you go to the bathroom. Do they follow you in? Be creative.

Hi Wilted Flower. Ask your grandparents if they would want you to wean yourself off insulin if you had diabetes. Don't do it flippantly. Just ask them calmly.
