Atelectasis can be a pre pneumonia situation. It is shen the lungs dont fill completely with oxygen. It can happen in people who dont take deep breaths, smokers, asthma, sometimes even the pain of a rib fracture keeps us from taking deep enough breaths and the lungs are affected. Sometimes after surgery, the anesthesia affects our breathing and this can occur. There are different lobes in the lungs and subsegmental is just describing location.

How are you feeling?

I feel fine. I went to hospital for Racing heart and this is what the chest X-ray said! They normally ask me to take a deep breath for the X-ray they didn’t this time could that have made a difference they said it was a small amount of mucus in my right lobe Probably from allergies but that is not what google says!

You can help your lungs by doing deep

breathing exercises, take a deep breath, hold it then slowly let it out; or take a straw in a glass of water and blow bubbles helps expand your lungs. You dont smoke I hope. Give your doctor a call and ask them to explain your xray results

Try not to panic, it only makes things worse. The doctor who ordered the chest X-ray should have explained exactly what it is that you have and the steps you need to take to treat it. But call your own doctor and relay everything that this ER doctor told you. I’m praying for your full and speedy recovery. 🙏 I believe in your healing! ❤️

They did a CT turns out it was just a shadow! Unbelievable! That kind of thing makes people with severe anxiety go into a huge panic!!

Thanks for the help all!

I looked up and answer I got -

Also called discoid or subsegmental atelectasis, this type is seen most commonly on chest radiographs.

Speak to your GP and do not worry maybe normal

Is the shadow anything serious or just normal ?

in reply toMia898

It was a shadow of me apparently sitting wrong. They did the X-ray with me sitting in the hospital bed... the did another with me standing and it was gone!

I live Depressed like I’m drying from some unfound issue.

That is funny. They were doing X-rays from the beds at our hospital Keep healthy patients out of the hallways with the Covid keep healthy patients out of the hallways with the Covid going around. I couldn’t sit still for it at all!
