Lexapro for Anxiety

Hi, Has anyone had much success with Lexapro for anxiety disorder? I was prescribed it, and tried to take it several times, but even at the lowest dose 5 mg., after a week, I wake up in the middle of the night with debilitating anxiety/panic and I stop taking it. Has anyone else experienced this using this?

No. I tried it I felt worse..my NP raised it..I felt far worse..I called her and said no more titrate me off and begged her to put me back on Cymbalta and she did.

I have been on it before, but unfortunately I don't remember how I felt. Don't ever remember having that side effect from any of my meds. Only Prozac made me numb. Good luck and I'm sorry you feel this way.

I have been taking lexapro for about 6 months now but my body has gotten so used to it that I only need to take 2.5 mg or a quarter of a pill each day for me to feel less anxious overall. However, if there are days I feel way more anxious or have an anxiety attack I increase the dose to 5-10 mg which has helped. Otherwise if I took 10 mg per day it would normally make me feel sluggish.

I have been on Lexapro for over 5 years and never experienced what you described. I started with 10 mg and found that to be sedating in the evening when I took it. It helped me sleep better through the night and it did help a lot with my anxiety. I wouldn't give up on it.
