Surgery

Hi all,

I had to go into the Dr today for a health issue I’ve been having. It looks like I’m going to need surgery after all the stay at home orders have been lifted in Denver (possibly 1.5 months out). In the meantime, there are medications and pain pills I can take but I’m mainly nervous about being put under and now knowing I’ll have this long wait before it happens. I’ve had many, many surgeries over my life span but had ECT this past year and had truly AWFUL experiences more than once while being put under, now I’m a nervous wreck. Any advice on how to not let this drive my anxiety off the charts until it’s actually time for surgery?!

Hi Kelli. Good luck with the surgery. Anticipation is the worst. I get anxiety getting put under also. I've had several surgeries and ECT also some surgeries were scheduled far in advance. It felt like an eternity for surgery day to come because I was so nervous but then when the day came I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought. If I have anticipation over something, I just tell myself this isn't going to last forever. Because it doesn't. But I understand it is difficult.

As always, your insight is very helpful. I’d been googling the procedure and decided to stop that! I’m going to try and put it out of my mind for a while, see if I can actually do that and if it actually helps! Anxiety is a bitch! I wish I had the motivation to be more proactive and engage in exercise, that seems to help a lot of people. Right now, I’m relying on meds. ... How are you?!
