Hi, I’m new here, for the past 3 weeks I have been really struggling with my anxiety which I haven’t had since 2016, two Saturdays ago I called a ambalance as couldn’t calm myself down I couldn’t breathe and felt no way out. Never ever done that before... they done all my tests and said I was 100 healthy but my breathing is rubbish every day....just can’t have one day where I ain’t thinking about it... I have all tense muscles in my back I’ve also had loads of acid reflux and just what to feel myself again....Any advice?

Hi and welcome. Meditation can help you to cope with anxiety. I mean not a religious practice and I don't want to say this is the best way, but the simplest. Try any guided meditation online course. Five to fifteen minutes of practice will be enough per day. But what the most important is to recognize why do you feel this way, maybe something triggers you, these feelings may be caused by negative thoughts, etc. So it's better to get professional help from a psychotherapist/counselor. I recommend you a book “Feeling good: New mood therapy” by D. Burns, it offers some useful instruments for coping that you can do by yourself, and tips.

I struggle with anxiety too. Long time ago I use to put a rubber band on my wrist and would pull it (pop) when I felt anxious to bring back to the present moment. Mindfulness. Also there’s 3 questions I ask. 1. What am I feeling? 2. What can I do about it? 3. What’s the worst thing that’s going to happen? And move on to the next thought . Or getting an orange or lemon and taking your time to see what does it feel like, smell like, taste like. Also brings you back to the present. Gets rid of your anxiety from my experience

I use a lotus mat to call myself down. It is like acupuncture. It really help your breathing, and calms your down within 20 min.❤️

Hi Kayleigh,

I hope that you are feeling better now. However, I am going to ask a question that you might find a little unorthodox for dealing with anxiety... How much coffee/ caffeine do you drink each and every day? Do you know that coffee, pop, caffeinated foods, and beverages is one of the largest causes of anxiety? I am a big believer of trying to find natural relief from anxiety before you go to the doctors and get medication. - I found a few good anxiety releases that work for me are: 1). Disconnect from (all) electronic devices and just be still. Being still/ quiet takes time to wind down, because your mind is so wound up with the business of all the electronic world. (So, I breathe deep breaths and look for things to be thankful for.) I go and take a walk w/o the phone, or any other all the electronics. 2). Find a way to get out and volunteer.- bake some cookies for a busy mom and kids or an elderly lonely person who cannot get out of their apartment/ house and visit with them. Go down to the Mission and help serve a meal, coach a little league team, help a teenage kid through their tough time. Read a story at the library for children's time. Volunteer at an animal shelter and walk the dogs or adopt a pet. go to a nursing home and visit the elderly... :)
