COVID-19

I was thinking of going kayaking tomorrow with a friend, but there have been new updates on COVID-19, and I’m thinking of canceling my trip, because the place that I’m thinking of going to is becoming a pupilas tourist destination. Is my thought process correct, or should I just go kayaking and not think too much about it?

Only you are able to make that determination for yourself. Just to put some perspective into it though... would you do the same during a regular flu season?

2800 something people worldwide have died majority in China where virus originated.

Approx. 56000 people die from regular flu in the USA each year.

There are maybe 33 confirmed cases of the virus in the USA and 12 in Canada. Total USA population is approx 327.2M (2018) and Canada is approx 37M.

This just shows the facts not the media hyped up fear. I personally think it is being made to be a partisan political hyperbolic event intended to raise funds for research , vaccines for large NGOs. The same thing happened with Ebola, H1N1 etc but it did not spread like hyperbolic forecasts from media. It was dropped from reports and forgotten. Just my opinion though. 😊

hi although the virus is near enough in all corners of the globe our worlds cant stand still.if its something you could do check out what the area you are travelling to are saying and you could also take precaution as well.

This depends on where you are going on your trip....if it's mainland china , yes I would be cautious....but there are 7.7 billion people on the planet and only a handful of cases outside of mainland china. So I think the fear mongering in the media is scaring people unnecessarily. Caution is prudent during any flu season or public outings, hand sanitizer, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, avoid touching your face, eyes, mouth. More people die from the regular flu every year. So just do what your comfortable with. I am an avid reader on this topic as I studied epidemiology and microbiology in college and can tell you common sense goes a long way.

I have to agree with fauxartist, one needs to apply common sense to the situation. What I want to know is where do you live, i.e. country? If you are in a place where there are no known outbreaks, I would go.

I’m not traveling anywhere, the place that I was referring to is actually in my country. I keep telling myself to be alert not anxious, but my thoughts are slowly become worse and worse. I have a chronic disease and I’ve been thinking “what if I get the disease and die” along with other thoughts/scenarios. Anxiety is killing me, I wake up everyday with nausea and a feeling of impending doom. 😭
