So recently the hospital I work at has made the vaccine mandatory and we have until the 30th to be vaccinated or we lose our jobs.. of course I need this job so I’m getting the vaccine. I’m very scared. I’m going in about 3 hours and I just am terrified something will go horribly wrong and I’ll die. :’( I know I’ll most likely have a panic attack also. How will I know if it’s panic or a bad reaction? :’(

COVID-19 Vaccine
Thankyou. I will. They make you stay for 15 minutes after the shot so I guess maybe if they happen it’ll be within that time frame
I was totally freaked out before getting mine. I rescheduled it 3 times…finally I said enough and made myself go. I told the nurse I was anxious and she asked why so I told her I was so worried about having an allergic reaction. She reassured me that they had zero patients have an allergic reaction. She also told me that I could have a juice box or snack if I felt it would help lol. I got the shot which was nothing…the waiting 15 minutes after was the hard part. At one point I did stand up because I felt like something was happening or going to happen. Guess what? It didn’t. For me personally I wore a bracelet…so I could fiddle with it. I messed with my phone. I texted a friend. I made it. If I can do it, I know you can. I am here to talk if you need me. It will be ok. 🙂
I’ve been putting it off for so long and I am going today. My coworkers are in a group message to support me and one is even going to meet me there to help comfort me a bit. Hopefully they have snacks.. haha thankyou your comment really helped.
Listen... I was scared too, and I actually couldn't get the vaccine for quite a while. I got sick, and believe me...even a medium dose of this thing will knock you on your butt like you would not believe...it hits hard and fast. I have a severe bee sting allergy, so when I was finally able to go to a clinic that could monitor me for any reaction, it was a relief. I was actually getting some relief from the symptoms after the two jabs then the variants came around, and I knew that the new variants could indeed attack my system again, my symptoms of 'Long Covid' are back, but so too had I been exposed to people not following strict guidelines again... there's no 'Herd Immunity' with the Delta and Lambda variants. But I believe I'm alive because of the jabs...so... better to be breathing than the alternative.
What?
My long-winded point is... don't worry... you will be okay. I have allergies and had no reaction to the first jab. Second jab I was told I would have a bit of the headache, stomach ache stuff...I did. But we all have to keep in mind that the vaccine is not a cure all 100%... it's a really good stopping point against the variants...and that could save your life.
anonleo I'm just seeing this now. Did everything go okay?
My heart is thudding in my chest and nothing looks real
Can you call your Employee Assistance Program or mental health line for immediate help with reducing your panic? I mention the EAP because it's usually free. I have used their phone number to stop panicking at work before (I was working with a toxic team and starting to lose it).
Or, call one of your awesome co-workers you mentioned. Hang in there, you'll get through it! 🧸🧸🧸🏋️♀️
The slightest discomfort after is 100% normal. It’s like getting a flu shot; a lot of people feel weird and feverish for a few days after.
The adverse affects from getting covid last way longer than panic attacks and way longer than “adverse effects” from the vaccine.
If you haven’t had any vaccines, you probably aren’t the person to give the OP advice lol. Not trying to be rude, but she’s already anxious about it and uninformed info isn’t gonna help
I can Relate --I, finally, got the two vaccines after being severally anxious about the vaccines since they came out! I did get a "mild" reaction after the second shot (chills, body aches), and probably would have panicked, but I was not alone & so that helped, some! The Waiting SO long to get the vaccine, and the anticipation was the WORST! It's been three weeks since I got the second vac., and I should feel less fearful; but, with the Delta, and other varients (sp?), I still feel anxious/fearful (not as bad) but I supposed that my Brain is "well oiled" with anxious thoughts for so many years that it's hard to change one's "program!" I need to be cautious, Yes --but, I don't want to be over-cautious... How do we reprogram our anxious brains? Is that possible? Good to read everyone's comments as there is support & help there!
COVID vaccine can help you people die form COVID and the people who are high risk can have very bad symptoms if they get it the vaccine is not experimental it saves life’s not trying to force you to get the vaccine or encouraging you that is just my opinion
How are you doing now ?
Ok it’s not
Thankyou for all these replies 🥺
