Water exercise

I live in a rural area, am 66. I wrestle with anxiety/ depression, harder in winter when Im stuck inside too much. My hubby is perfectly content to sit and watch netflix all winter. I see him aging before my eyes. We have discussed this, he see’s no issue. There is an indoor pool 35 miles away that offers water exercise for seniors. Im trying to decide whether or not to go. Would it be worth 70 mile round trip to go have fun for an hour. He wont go and doesnt get why I want to but he is smart enough not to tell me no, lol. I dont know why it is such a hard decision for me to make!!! Any input I would welcome. I feel stupid even asking and should count my blessings I dont have more serious problems.

Update 2/7/20

For you kind people who encouraged me to pursue water exercise, Im happy to report that next tue I am meeting with an old work friend who is taking the class I am interested in and she is going with me to sign up. It wont start til march but Im excited about looking forward to it plus having someone there to encourage me along. She sats it is addicting it is so much fun. Thank you all who nudged my out of my comfort zone💜

Hoski. I understand. I battle with depression myself. I have a heated pool a block away in the clubhouse, and can't get myself there. Talk about pathetic? I do get myself out to ride my bike, but the water exercising would help me additionally. I have no words of support since I'm like your husband. It's so difficult to get off the couch. But it's a good day if I can get out of bed. Good luck on your travels. 😎

And I would. We could hobble over on our new knees together.

Im going to drive down and check out the pool as soon as our snow leaves.

Let me tell you....the water is the cure..

Not literally but going swimming can reduced all your mental symptoms and clarity..

Everytime I go swimming I come out feeling clear minded and refreshed... I say go the extra mile

That is good to hear. I believe what you say is true. Even a long hot shower is uplifting to me.

I would encourage you to go do it. Water exercise would also be good for your physical well-being.

My husband and I are both 69. I understand about watching your husband age before your eyes. It's quite hard to watch. So I sometimes go the extra mile and try to do lots of things to encourage him to get busy. I feel responsible for his activities now....

I just checked with the YMCA, a mon- wed- fri class is only $25/month, pretty reasonable. Im going to go. Cannot convince Mr Grumpy to come along...

Its a good idea. I went to the pool yesterday and had the pool and hot tub all to myself (because of the snow). It was so peaceful and calming.

Sounds like heaven!

It was. And speaking of age, I took an 86 yr old friend and she credits swimming with keeping bad arthritis at bay and keeping her health as good as it can be for as long as it can be. Unfortunately most people arent so proactive about their health.

I would do about anything to beat back arthritis and Im just a child at 66!!!
