Loosing sleep
Are there specific things you are worried about or that you think about during these times you are trying to sleep.
I am the same way. I have had trouble sleeping since my earlier 20's, and before then I used to sleep waaay too much back in high school before I threw in the towel because I just couldn't deal with the panic attacks. Anyways, that's exactly my problem, is my mind is racing constantly when I try to fall asleep, my psychiatrist and I have tried everything under the sun and nothing seemed to work, I was awake a week straight and had an appointment with my doctor and she prescribed me 15mg Zyprexa, which is an antipsychotic, but is prescribed off label, for sleep, and it worked! I am by no means telling you to to get on this medicine, in fact I am trying to get off because of some of the physical health problem that come along with it, for me anyways. High blood pressure, weight gain, high cholesterol etc. It was a useful tool at the time though, you just have to remember that sleep is important for your health aswell and weigh your coupons. But anyways this is the forth night without it, after tapering to 7.5mg. First two nights I slept, third night I didn't sleep a wink, lastnight I slept, what I found that helps me more than medicationp, is I take 10mg otc melatonin, but I hold my eyes shut semi-tight but not uncomfortable, I try to clear my mind which is easier said than done, but I just stare into the darkness, if I have trouble I Invision a light within the darkness and stare at in, don't overthink it and worry about if you're doing it right, and if it doesn't work and the racing thoughts come back just try to stay calm and not get frustrated, roll over, get comfortable and try again, keep trying this method, of course it'll be different for us all, but I found that this truly helps with distracting myself from the racing thoughts and falling asleep. Also this is not something I just came up with 4 nights ago, this is something I use to do years ago because I found it worked, but I just fell away from it, which is easy to do with the way my mind works. Sorry for the filibuster, but I know what anxiety and insomnia are like, and I just wanted to share what works for me a majority of the time, hope it helps you!
Have you tried taking melatonin or magnesium supplement? I find those have helped me.
