Insomnia

I am on Effexor (almost 6 weeks now) and struggling with insomnia. Can anyone relate? Did it go away? What did you do to help? My doctor gave me sleeping aids and they aren’t helping.

My doctor refuses to give me anything at all for insomnia. I am taking melatonin nightly. I still wake up many times, so it isn’t perfect. I took an at-home sleep test which revealed sleep apnea. I then tried cpap. I returned it after three weeks. Still struggling.

Is it because of your sleep apnea that your doc refuses to give you something to sleep ? Could you ask him about trazadone. ? Even 25 mgm might help some.

I may be able to help a little. I've been on Effexor extended release (ER) 187.5 mg for 10 months. Taking the ER version means I take it all in the morning and none at night. This reduces likelihood of insomnia. Nonetheless, I have insomnia. A huge help is taking one 100mg Trazodone pill one hour before bedtime. If I need extra help, I take passion flower capsules from my favorite on-line vitamin store at the recommended dose along with the Trazodone each night. All this is my secret weapon that defeats insomnia.

Oh, and Buspar may help too. If Effexor is not taking care of all your anxiety (usually goes hand in hand with depression), add 15-30mg of Buspar both morning and night, especially night.
