Has anyone had success with one SSRI and not the other? I've been on 20mg of lexapro for 6 weeks for anxiety and I feel worse or like I'm taking a sugar pill. Was on zoloft for many years and it worked. I thought it stopped working but looking back it was. Has anyone else has this experience where 1 SSRI worked but the other didn't? I don't get that since they are in the same family.

Hi there Plato38. Yes, that type of situation is not uncommon. One drug can work really well for one person and not work at all for another. i have taken many different drugs over the past 25 years or so. i am on lexapro right now, seems to help lessen my suicide ideation and has also lessened my anxiety spells to a degree. Prescribing meds is both part science and an art. That is my humble opinion anyway. You may want to let your Doctor know about how you are feeling.
Thank you for responding. I see a psychiatrist for the first time next week, so I'm looking forward to maybe getting of lexapro and back on zoloft. I told my PA but he said it can take a while. I also take Remeron which helps me sleep. Would like to be on just one thing.
I was also on lexapro and it did t seem to be doing anything. The switch me to celexa which I also didnt have much luck with. I tried zoloft but had some sort of allergic reaction to it, so they took me off of it right away. I have bin on effexor for the past 6 months I take it in the morning and trazodone at night and j feel like a whole new person! Was so happy to find something that finally worked. Hope you find yours too!
Yes, I've had similar experiences. For me, celexa really helps but sertraline and Lexapro don't do a thing. There was one that I took a few years ago (I can't remember the name) that made me incredibly suicidal within a matter of a week. It all depends on the individual person. I think it's quite common though.
