SSRI’s don’t work for me

I’ve tried 2 SSRI medications and one SNRI and all haven’t worked for me. I seem super sensitive to meds and it usually only exacerbates my anxiety/panic disorder. I understand there’s a long list of medications out there but is it possible that they just might not be the kind of medication for me? I’m curious about any similar experiences if others have them.

I’ve been so many medications. I am also super sensitive to meds and have anxiety/panic. What worked for me was to ask for the lowest dosage. That way you can give it a test run without being sidelined by side effects. There is also a test called Genesight that can analyze your DNA to help predict what will and won’t for you. I haven’t done it yet, but I’ve heard positive feedback from others.

Have you found a medication that worked?

I take the lowest dose of Lexapro and the lowest dose of Lorazepam when needed. Honestly, I think the low intensity cardio and yoga do more. It’s time consuming, but when I walk 2-3 miles and do an hour of yoga everyday, I feel so much better in terms of anxiety, depression and panic. When I get out of my routine, my mental health just isn’t as good. That said, I’ve been on both of the medications for years and I do know that they help as part of the equation.

There is something about physical activity that helps with my mental health. I feel so much better when I go for a long walk or spend a few hours at a park or trail.

I quit trying them, increased my anxiety, and made my insomnia worse.

yes I have given up on meditation, it was Amitryptiline that caused my panics and Anxieties in the first place, felt brilliant for four years then they stopped working, then when my problems started.

Is CBD oil or medical cannabis an option for you mcgeen42? I took CBD oil for one vial's worth (3months?) and it actually really helped with one of my physical manifestions of anxiety - sweating.

I eventually stopped due to my being a tightwad and I got back on an SNRI. I am religious and it is frowned on in my community, but if things get bad for me in the future I will definitely try medical cannabis. There are many solutions out there, I know you can find something that helps.

Are you currently going to counseling? I find that it helps me a lot, more than drugs, but why not use everything that helps? *shrug*

Wishing you peace, hope, and strength.

I have tried three different medications and none of them have worked well. I might get a good day here or there but nothing consistent. I notice that walking at least 30min or more makes me feel much better. Being outside in nature like in a park relaxes me and keeps my anxiety under wraps. When I spend all day inside such as in the office I start to feel down and anxious. Lorezapam is good when your anxiety is out of control but is only used as needed.
