Music... How has this affected your state of mind?

Music, Music, Music. Lots of people say music is their one true companion. Haha, I laugh to that. I don't know if it's a different condition or something but while people get calm with music, my emotion at the time gets to its peak. If I was angry, I get even angrier, if I was sad, oh man, the tears starts flowing without shame. I stayed a month without music at some point, I get mad when people played loud music and when I tell them to use an earpiece, they feel I'm just being extra but it's causing damage. Now I really like a song, it's nice but as much as I love it and make sure I play it everyday, it still brings sadness to my heart. Phew, enough of me. Tell me now, have music been helpful? 🎵🎶🎼

I can understand what you mean about music triggering certain emotions. There's are songs that would make me angry or really sad and think about specific moments in my life. If I'm feeling really anxious or depressed, I'll put on relaxing music that has no words that have a nice melody or nature sounds and it seems to help a little.

No problem. I'm not sure if it would work for you but it does help me sometimes. Welcome 😊

You've touched on something important, and brought back a lot of memories for me. When I was young, I listened to music constantly while I worked. When I went through a breakdown years ago I couldn't *stand* any noises including music and hardly listened for years. I can understand losing patience with others over this issue.

Nowadays I don't listen to music when I need to concentrate. Other times, when everything is right, I can find it soothing. I think there isn't one answer. Music seems like an emotional amplifier. You have to be careful with it. Could make things worse or better. I often enjoy "sad" music because it seems more real, and sometimes communicates underlying strength. But I would not listen to it when I'm anxious or depressed.

Thanks for posting.

I try to avoid certain songs on the radio to avoid my sadness. Most of them are love songs or a song about losing/missing someone. It doesn't even have to sound sad cause that isn't what I pay attention to. I usually listen to 90s hip-hop/r&b which has little to no sadness in them.

Funny enough, I was a rap fan but now I listen to anything. Lol, maybe I should go back to rap.

Great post! And onthetrail's ideas represent mine to a great degree. I won't listen to sad or depressing music because it has the power to pull my mood downward and that's no good for me. I love listening to my Christian upbeat, positive music which, in turn, keeps me feeling exactly the way I want to: positive, loving of both God and man, in a dance mood/energetic, and joyful.

If I don't have a chance to listen to my fave music for a few days, I feel the lack of it and start really wanting to get some music time in for myself. My mood is actually starting to sink due to the loss of my music! Thank goodness there's an easy remedy!
