is it asthma ☹️
Hi Shannon. It's a great sign that the spirometry test is good. Is it possible that the tightness in your chest and breathing difficulties are panic attacks? I've heard that a panic attack can feel remarkably like an asthma attack or heart attack. Your frequent worrying about it might be part of the anxiety "package deal." If you can't stop thinking about it, even when you're not having symptoms, maybe you're obsessing a bit? (Though to be fair it is legit SCARY when you feel you can't get air, and if that's the case, we're talking about fear, not just anxiety.) Maybe you should talk to your doctor about this, and step through exactly why they don't think it's allergies/asthma? Usually allergies will have other symptoms as well, like itchy eyes, runny nose, etc., might be seasonal or situational, or if chronic, could be a fairly constant allergen like dust or pets. But asthma can also be triggered by factors other than allergies (e.g., smoke). If you think your general practitioner is not communicating well with you, or not listening, you could seek the advice of an allergist. Just make sure it's a board-certified allergist and not some kind of alternative practitioner claiming expertise in the subject matter -- there are some okay "alternative" folks out there, but some dangerous kooks as well. I should mention that I am not a doctor, but I have family experience both with panic attacks (related to OCD) and asthma/life-threatening allergies. Either way it sucks. You need someone who will listen to you and work with you to determine whether the cause is asthma, anxiety/panic, or something else.
Shannon you have health anxiety! Even if you do have asthma it's obviously only very mild and it's far from a death sentence. Don't live the rest of your life worrying about things that will probably never happen! Deal with your anxiety please and stop posting the same questions over and over! We can only say you have health anxiety so many times but if it falls on deaf ears there is nothing we can do about it. Only you can. Take control.
As long as you take the inhaler you should have nothing to worry about, asthma or not. My father has had asthma since little kid and even if he got no aid till later for the issue he's fine and relatively healthy at age 60.
I’ve had asthma almost my whole life (from 4 till now at 32) for me when my asthma is playing up I wheeze and can’t take deep breaths and cough. I take ventolin for quick relief and it’s instantly relieved with moments of having the puffer. Are you taking a preventive and a reliever? I think you are probably having symptoms of anxiety if you’re not being relieved by your medication, but would suggest getting an allergy test anyway to see if possibly something is triggering asthma. Asthma is very manageable, and definitely not a death sentence my pop had chronic asthma and emphysema and still lived until his 80s. Between myself, hubby and one of our sons that have it only once has my son needed to spend the night in hospital because of it and that was when he was 1st diagnosed.
We all deal differently with anxiety and one of the many symptoms that rears its ugly head is feeling like you can't breathe I had it for 2 months then it finally went away it was a constant heavy chest feeling. I was terrified to leave the house
