Hi it would be virtually unheard of for anyone your age to get Alzheimers or dementia as this is usually over the age of 60 or much more likely 70. It's called an old persons disease for a reason! Our brains aren't computers and stress and anxiety can affect our memories as can tiredness or worry. Most older people don't get it anyway but some memory loss is common especially as we age

Don't worry - you haven't got Alzheimers or dementia! x

But some days I can barely remember anything. Like all my memories are fading away. It's scary. That's why I think I have it. :(

dfaojfpafcvinidsz I have this problem too!! it couldn't be Alzheimers or dementia but I'm 22 and I feel like i've been forgetting everything, even simply things I've remembered my whole life. Usually having anxiety has a lot to do with that I've heard

Do you blank out alot? Mine just feels like all of my memories are going to slip away... they never do. But also, I feel brain dead sometimes. That doesn't make the situation any better. Even writing this post I'm having trouble coming up with the right words and spelling

yesss constantly but ive noticed it happens more in high anxiety ridden situations. Like for example, I have baddd social anxiety and I was running a meeting once at work and completely blanked out for a second until I had to snap myself back into it. It makes me feel dumb and I know that I'm not but I've noticed it get worst as my anxiety has gotten worst sadly

Wow!!! Thank you. So much reassurance! I've yet to find someone who actually goes through this! You're a life saver.

There are some antidepressants and antianxiety medications that can affect memory. Benzos are notorious for memory loss (in case you are on any).

No! I'm just on lamitcal. it's done wonders but I still need help with my anxiety :(

I have the same thing, when I first started getting anxiety bad I would zone out a lot, forget stuff, stutter, memories were so hard to focus on, it was terrible, I used to worry about this as well, and then my anxiety and panic attacks went away for a year and everything was back to normal, now my anxiety is back and I’m going through the same thing again 😭

dbeck128 profile image
dbeck128 in reply to Lexirae_

Yes! For a while there it didnt even phase me then I started to get worried because I have a phobia of dementia or just forgetting my children. I hate it

Lexirae_ profile image
Lexirae_ in reply to dbeck128

SAME! Sometimes I look at my daughter and I’m like wait your my daughter it’s so weird, it lasts a second but so scary, I have to focus so hard on memories. I think it’s because our brains are racing 24/7 and would rather focus on the β€œthreat” rather then what we’re trying to do 😭

dbeck128 profile image
dbeck128 in reply to Lexirae_

Ugh I do the SAME thing. Like oh these are my kids? Even tho I know they are. It's good to know someone else has these moments because it's hard going through that alone.

If you are having sleep issues that can also affect your memory.

dbeck128 profile image

I get pretty good sleep. But its uninterrupted because I have a 4 mo old!

I don't believe you have Alzheimer's or dementia. Never heard of someone your age having it? Have you been tested? You can have memory issues when you have anxiety or from Medication.

dbeck128 profile image
dbeck128 in reply to Want2BHappy3

That's what my doctor said.. he basically laughed it off but I still get scared not remembering things. Then my brain will play tricks on me telling me I cant remember my children's names or I'll forget where I am!!

I didn't know what day today was? My anxiety is so Bad that I didn't sleep at all last night and had diarrhea all night also. My whole body is hurting me, can't eat

Have you been tested for low B12? B12 deficiency can cause memory problems.

I have low iron! But taking my pills does nothing for me.

Have you had B12 checked though?

Were you prescribed or used any Benzos in the past? Asking because they destroyed my memory and a lot more.

Just lamictal. Was prescribed klonipin but refused to take it.

I had a friend who used xanax and sometimes subutex recreationally and often he couldnt remember things we discussed earlier that day.

I can relate as I take Valium. I've been on it for years and yes, I don't remember SOME things, but I can't let it plague me. I watch Jeopardy every night and it's amazing how much I can remember. Out brains are remarkable and resilient! Just make time to work on your memory everyday. Lots of people swear by crosswords but even doing artwork is helpful!

Figgins42 profile image

Are you on meds? Do you have a lot of anxiety? Anxiety makes it hard to focus. It also can cloud the memory. We're so consumed by our afflictions (not our fault!) that the memory becomes affected. It's totally normal. I play games sometimes to test my memory. There are a TON of apps for brain function and memory. Most of them are free! Try to remember that medications and your emotional illnesses all contribute to very mild memory interference. It's not memory loss, it's just your emotions flood your mind. You have a young, healthy brain. Take care of it and you will be fine!

dbeck128 profile image
dbeck128 in reply to Figgins42

Thank you! I'm currently on lamicatl. And you're right. The fears to manifest within. I get scared I'll forget my children, any memory I've ever had, or even who i am. It sucks and I've yet to find a way to actually cope. But thankyou for your kind words and advice

Figgins42 profile image
Figgins42 in reply to dbeck128

you're going to be FINE. You will not forget your children. I am 43 and I've had memory loss here and there and I've been on 3 meds for years. I've been on a benzodiazepine for more than 20 years. My father has dementia and so did his mother. So you can imagine how I worry. However, take control of it! Watch Jeopardy, play trivial pursuit. Heck, even play Memory for kids (remember that game?). Write things down and try to memorize them. I make an attempt to memorize phone numbers - something we rarely do because everything is stored in our phones. Face this fear head on! Don't let it get the better of you! You are strong! Ask your Doc about Prevagen. Find holistic/natural ways to boost brain function. Keep telling yourself, I am fine! And if you feel the medication is really affecting your memory severely, please please talk to your Doctor about it. You are going to be OK! Enjoy time with your kids! God Bless you!

Your words have been so comforting. I really appreciate all you have said. I will definitely talk to my doctor about that, because I'm willing to try anything. You give me hope. Thank you ❀

I am sorry, but why does this group always go to medications instead of just acknowledging that fear can call the brain to react abnormally or have trouble problems solving out of fear. Why does everyone have to go to a drug on here. This makes me so very sad that is all anyone can offer as a cause or a cure!!!

Hi. I started having this issue since a couple of years and I do worry about it so can understand where you coming from. But it is very unlikely dementia. I would start worrying when I start getting lost in familiar places and cannot find your way home. As for myself I frequently misplace things, cannot remember the names of people I know , get lost for words, forget plots of movies etc :(. All the more annoying as I thought I had a good memory like I used to remember too many things I do not need lol even found it annoying like medication names, names of diseases if I read about them once. No longer. I think for me it is long term stress, anxiety, sleep deprivation are the culprits

Try focusing a week of your life on reading one book (preferably something educational.. Shaws Principles of internatinal law imo is great. or any semi hard book on topic you enjoy). avoid facebook or any internet or distractions. live solely with aim to learn by heart!! this is important to learn slowly and carefully.

After week youll see tremedous improvement of memory.

So why spend so much time? Because you also need to get rid of ur anxiety. By forcing memorization youll realize you are actually ok.

.

Focus and good sleep imo is key for memorizing.

Yes, I just posted on similiar fears of freaking out. Unknown fear seem to surface and my memory dips and forget even why I am afraid or why I fear that someone I rely on might make a mistake and this upsets me. Perhaps because so many people have made mistakes lately and so many fraudulent scams occur with people I know and with me as well. Trust seems to be gone. Not sure what the cause of the fear but then I forget what I am doing or even what day it is.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I have ADHD and since I've gone back on anti depressants, I'm shocking, I'll get up to do something, take three steps and forget what I'm doing. I regularly worry that I might end up with dementia later in life! It's incredibly frustrating.
