Anxious daughter

I live with my 77 year old mother and my 30 year old daughter and I am 57. My mother, luckily is healthy and active. I have two bad knees and a bad hip so my mobility is less than hers and I’ve been on disability for 4 years now for both the physical issues and for my depression which I’ve been aware of since I was 26. My daughter has been diagnosed with both bipolar and anxiety disorder. She has been out of work for the past 6 years and I’ve been supporting her this whole time. Because of my own depression and and for the fact that I am not, by nature a nurturing person, my daughter feels isolated and seems unable to progress. When my mother dies I will not be able to afford to purchase her house and so will be homeless and because I am on disability I cannot support both myself and my daughter and I just don’t know what to do to help her get well enough to get a job. Even if that job is working at home on the computer doing something like medical transcription, she had trained for both massage therapy and medical assistance so this would be a good fit for her. How do I help her move forward? I don’t know what to do and feel so lost and worried for her future. HELP!

Is there any possibility you could get into subsidized housing?

I’ve not checked into it since my disability began, but what I really want is my daughter to be able to either live on her own or to at least have a job to contribute to the household. I know this will make her feel less useless and dependent on myself. But I’ll take another look at subsidized housing, thanks.

Is your daughter disabled from her mental health issues?

She applied once but was turned down, I’ve been trying to get her to reapply but her anxiety is making that difficult. She sees her therapist this week I’ve asked to speak to her before she leaves

She definitely needs to reapply

Speaking with the therapist is good idea.

Maybe get the ball rolling on an application together
