I love using blue, red, green, purple, yellow, and any color I can find.
I love the hard binding on the top
I love the feeling against my fingers when I run my hands along the creases and edges of its cover.
It makes me feel safe. It makes me feel loved. It feels like I am having an honest conversation. When I started journaling, my journey to healing had begun. My journal has caused me to get my habit of the gym. Its made me disciplined with my diet. It has also made me work through childhood trauma, broken relationships, and my broken self. The self-exploration and self-understanding have been priceless to me.
I sought out a therapist earlier this year and since then (my therapist and I clicked), I have been journaling pages and pages every day. I have been able to explore my pain in healthier ways. Identifying, grieving, learning, accepting, forgiving and ultimately a broader insight into loving my self.
Something my therapist told me was "love is a skill". It really changed the way that I started to take care of myself. I am becoming better at making healthy based decisions.
We are all on this journey of trying to heal. It's a battle. Does anyone have any daily practices that have changed their healing process? Any daily practices that anyone finds helpful?

"Love is a skill." That's wonderful. My therapist has me doing 'thought logs'. They are a breakdown of anxious thoughts and feelings that are in the CBT area of training. I've been doing them for a couple of weeks and I don't know if they are helping yet - I suspect it's a cumulative effect.
-Sarellano26 beat me to the quesiton! Thank you for posting that JAYnLA. I have thought my way out of anxiety before through becoming present and asking some of these types of questions. This is a freaking cool template.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Jay. I had to stop seeing my (relatively new) therapist for financial reasons. I haven't had a session in over a month, and I feel so lost and like I lost all my coping techniques for my GAD and depression. I've never done thought logs written out like this before, but I think it could be helpful.
Interesting! I love the CBT field as apposed to others because they offer wisdom through practical and helpful tools. Its crazy how powerful putting something in writing can be!
From personal experience, my journaling has been a cumulative effect foresure!
Here is my journal: (there are other cool ones too) I always get a hardbound cover because it helps me take the journaling more seriously. I also feel more proud after I write in it. I am literally creating my own lifes novel! Our lives are important enough to document. So why not do it with a cool lookin book!?
The journal is about yourself! It is a blank novel and is whatever you want it to be. It can be a place of comfort, honesty, release, identification, and/or healing as a result. At the very basic, you will always benefit from writing down/organizing your thoughts. We all have a whole inner world inside of us. Sometimes for me at least, it can become cluttered, obsessive, and scary. I look at my journal like a map. The journal helps me navigate through some of my deepest feelings.
Dont overcomplicate it! If you started journaling today and chatted about your day - you might find something you didnt see before. Its all about self exploration!
Good therapist are helpful because they can offer weekly direction or guidance.
I hope this helps sarellano26! Im happy to add or help in anyway I can
thats amazing sarellano26! I write almost everyday. I am more prone to write if I feel anxious, depressed, or if I am in deep thought. It helps clean the clutter. Its up to you if you would like to go back. Its meant as a safe place for you and your heart! God bless you!!
This definitely makes me want to get back to journaling and it really did help and heal me and understand myself and emotions in a healthy way! Going to take it up again!! Thank you for this 😁
I've had journaling recommended to me a couple times to help process my GAD and depression. I'm not sure why, but I always hesitated at committing to it. Maybe I'm just afraid. But you make it sound like such a healing experience that maybe I really should give a try. Thank you so much for sharing.
I didnt start noticing how helpful it was until I got 2-3 weeks into it. It definatly takes a leap of faith to keep writing your first week in. So I dont blame you for putting it down in the past. Some days I would only write 1 paragraph. And others 3 pages. Your life is worth documenting! Its provided a resting place to me for sure.
(PS. I doodle, use different colred pens, markers, and always purchase a beautiful journal to make it more engaging. Black pens and school notebooks are such a bore - whatever works for you though! )
I'm going to try again. 🙂 I just re-read your original post and it's so interesting how you say it has helped you to get into other good habits like the gym, diet, and processing trauma. I struggle with all of these things too. I've battled my GAD and depression and have felt broken for a long time. Hoping I can use journaling as a positive step.
Its an awesome form of self care! You plant the seeds and the ideas/self care/accountability/clearity/healing start to work as the tree grows. Sorry to hear about your depression and anxiety. I am working my way up the hill of brokenness. Were all still in process. But I am excited for you! Cheers to your future healing and a new direction.
