In times of stress my body chooses a muscle group to activate over and over so I can’t relax. If I lay down and try to relax I just feel my body tighten the muscles over and over. Anyone else get this? What do you do about it?

Muscle tension
I've been taking muscle relaxers on a regular basis because of how tense I get when I'm stressed or on the verge of an anxiety attack. Heating pads also help relax the muscles or rolling a tennis ball over the tense areas. I don't think there's any way to stop our bodies from tensing up so these help make it more bearable. Hopefully it helps you.

I don’t take meds for my anxiety unless it gets really bad. And when I do, I take hydroxozine. It’s for allergic reactions or they sometimes use it to help put ppl to sleep before a surgery, so it calms your nerves basically. When my muscles in my legs use to tighten up, I take that. Seems to help.
Also, I preach about chamomile tea and cbd oil. The number one things I use that naturally help with my anxiety or calm my nerves as well.
Oh I have chamomile at home! Sometimes I take an allergy pill but it doesn’t always work in a timely manner. This is probably a stupid question but can cbd oil show up on drug tests? It’s cannabis right? Probs not cuz you don’t use a lot... but just curious haha
Cbd does not show up on drug test. I also smoke marijuana lol.
But even though cbd comes from the plant, it doesn’t contain thc. (Which is what would show up on the test)
Yes I get this, do lots of deep breathing
I've had this in my neck lately. The last two nights I have used something like Icy Hot. Not that brand but same thing. It seems to be helping along with Aleve.
I would try massage and just have them focus on the neck, shoulder area if that is the area bothering you. I only do 30 min at a time. I started yoga for relaxation, mindfulness. I have finally realized that anxiety/depression is something I have to have a PLAN for and just one thing will not work. What works for me is a combination of the following: Meds, exercise/yoga/walk- 20min a day, sunlight, eat right, enough sleep, spiritual life, aromatherapy, decompressing time
Life is very stressful- taking care of yourself needs to be a priority for you ( and for me- it wasn't for many years)
Stay strong, hope you feel better soon.
What are you picturing in your head when it happens? Sounds corny, but pick a happy place, close your eyes and picture yourself there. There is a technique that tenses and relaxes each muscle group from toes to eyebrows. I can't remember the name, but I learned it in a mindfulness class. Maybe try that. Tensing something else may relax the involuntary one.
I’ve tried all of those, it didn’t really help much. The visualization helped me fall asleep but it didn’t actually make the feeling go away. Progressive muscle relaxation didn’t help and neither did flexing other muscles. Using pillows to adjust my position so that the muscle was continually being stretched kind of helped
Sleeping position controls a lot. Have you looked at potassium levels? Try a banana before bed.
