Surrender!

My situation now on a daily basis is becoming unbearable. I no longer trust myself. I cannot get back to my own country and get the medical help I do desperately need. People I used to know have just abandoned me. I asked my church to help me. They did not even respond to my email. Not even sorry we can't help but will pray for you. Not a word. Did Jesus ever turn his back in us! Never. I have lost faith in mankind not my Lord. Now I leave my future in His hands for help and direction. I was well adjusted on medications but can no longer afford them. I just want some peace in my life for whatever is left if it. Nothing else. Just to be able to smile and laugh again. Just to know my own relatives care a little. Just to know that I am worth a minute of their time to talk to. Just to not be treated like a lepper. GOD grant me peace.

Where is your country you want to visit? Where are you living now? What medicines do you need and why can't you access them at the moment? How miserable you must feel with no support at the moment.

Wherever you are - there's always another organisation who will help - may be another branch of the church In our area. We have orgs like the salvation army in the uk who really help folk. Are there any political contacts of party groups. You are bound to find support groups and orgs in your country. Don't give up finding the right person to talk to.

I am in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. I'm CANADIAN. Because I'm here everyone thinks I'm rich! Far from it after being defrauded if thousands and no justice here. My contacts with Canadian organizations have been fruitless. And I'm a veteran but now a days we are just "old people". Sad state of affairs but I appreciate your reply. Just out of options!

I can say you don't seem to be surrendering. There are very few veterans alive. You have a Canadian passport so you should have rights as this is your birthplace. My dad was a veteran of world war two. When he was widowed he reconnected with his Corps, and received support from his corps. He was just like you a very proud man, who was always independent. He had a lot of ill health with diabetes, heart trouble and kidney trouble, but he lived until he was nearly 95.

I suppose you have already contacted Canadian Veterans Association support forum ( cyabsf.forumotion.com )

Veterans Affairs Canada benefits and Services

canada.ca/guidetoprograms -vac/benefits

veterans.gc.ca

agtax.ca/Canada-tax-veteran-benefits.

The last contact has branches in Toronto 416238 5920 Vancouver &

Edmonton 708 702 2732. it has an e mail box to contact the org which might help

clarify your rights to veteran benefits and pension. Certainly the Uk was paying benefits to citizens such as the Ghurkas. The forum looks the first contact to ask if anyone is claiming their pensions from abroad.

I hope I have not wasted your time with these links which might come up more clearly with your server. As Canada is part of the UK Commonwealth it might be

contacting agtax.ca/Canada. The picture of a poppy in fields resonates.

I salute you!

Sorry to hear that things are not good hold on tight things must get better soon. praying for ya, maybe those at the church are just a bit slow, those church folk never seem to move as fast as we want or need them to as they have heaps to do and heaps to look after, hopefully they will respond soon, don't give up, your situation is really hard I get that, but you have to believe that it will eventually come right, hold on stay strong be brave we are here for you

Hey Kiltyman, I'm sorry to hear you're in such a tough spot. I think hawii60's suggestions for Canadian vet support looks particularly strong. I think you can move forward on 2 parallel paths.

1st connecting with aid for your medication

2nd working on non-medication improvements. While difficult and perhaps slower (tho most research I've seen, longer lasting) CBT techniques could really bring you some help.

As far as your church is concerned, have you tried a different communications to them. It seems unusual to get no response at all--perhaps they simply lost your email? Email notwithstanding, if you feel this church is unsympathetic to people in need than perhaps find another.

Thank you for your reply. I am just so discouraged by the lack of empathy by so many "Christian " organizations. My whole life I always gave what I had to those in need. And now I feel my help only went to profit a few but not the needy. I pray I'm not right! But now today man seems more interested in personal gain than caring for anyone else. This is not the world I grew up in but today's generations cannot understand. I'm tired of this "new world order".

Sir Grits has opened up another line of approach - it is to do with your mental health .

If your mental health is due to not having enough medical support for medical and painful conditions linked with your age, then your need for the right medicines makes both your pain and mental health worse. If your mental health can be helped with herbal remedies such as St John's wort and valerian supplements, or other homeopathic remedies you might find these useful. If you are on complex drugs for your condition, then may be you can look them up on drugs.com. They will tell you what ingredients are in them and how and why they work. If your condition concerns arthritis or other painful conditions there are remedies such as turmeric curcumin which can relieve inflammation and pain.

As there are Episcopal, Presbyterian, and evangelical Methodist churches which may well be able to give you support emotionally and may have links to organisations locally who can help fund your medicines. As Sir Grits has said it is worthwhile looking to other denominations. I hope you can find contact with the Canadian Veteran forum as you will be able to talk to people who strange as it may seem know of others in your corps.

To be able to chat to others on the same wavelength and discuss your time when in the armed forces will give you a smile and give you new friends on line. Giving other members of the veteran association your insights as you enjoy giving - may help your period of gloom.

Thanks. I will try to find a solution but I am so negative and discouraged. Trying to find sense in it all.

You need facts at your finger tips to help you come to a decision.

Have tried logging onto veteran sites to see if they have information on veterans pensions from your home country paying them abroad. The gateway seems like all the other websites, with no information for retired veterans who live abroad.

Have to say my server is rather out of date. I wonder if you can log onto the UK British Legion website, and allied forces forums, may bei you can find any information through their foreign links. There has to be some way of finding

information pertaining to your age, service, and disabilities. Certainly the Canada is paying pensions and disabilities to servicemen in their own country . I applied for a state pension several years after I was entitled to claim. I obtained it with a back payment, aged 65. The pensionable age was 60. I am sure there will be information concerning your own country on how to apply if you are living abroad.

Invincta.net is the one of the main systems for armed forces.

Guess it has been a dismal time, with the financial difficulties. Suppose you have to clear things with your tax authorities to know what code you come under.

Do wish you the very best - and if I find a link to add - will send it on. No need to reply.

Hi Kiltyman had better luck using QWANT search engine.

I looked for Old Persons Pensions and benefits whilst living abroad.

canada.ca/en/services/benefits.

It gives you a form to apply and contacts for international pensions and security for further information. It lists your country D.R. as OAS exempt with no recovery tax with an exemption tax treaty.

The title of the information is Lived or living outside Canada pensions and benefits.

It shows the eligibility to qualify for the pension and gives examples of people o 65 who have lived abroad but have spent time in Canada before living abroad.

I do not know if you can contact the services department for more information on veterans pensions, but sure you will find information applicable to your age and disability.

Cheers!

I contacted Veterans Affairs, my Canadian Legion but it's hard for them because I am not in Canada. My own Embassy has no answers for me. I'm lost now and feel totally hopeless. GOD give me strength.

Have you tried logging onto canada.ca/en/services/benef... html.

If you try Qwant search engine you might get a better response.

Just type in "Lived in or living outside Canada - Pensions and benefits - what you need before you start" Government of Canada. It tells you what you need before you apply

a) tax status

b eligibility.

Log onto to all departments listed on the site and save them to your favourites so you can read through all the contact details and e mail addresses. If you have poor eyesight if you have a library you might be able to get your librarian to help you print out the form and fill it in. So you can apply online .Even at your doctor's you might get someone to help you with the form. Guess you have to avoid phoning as it is too expensive. There is always someone who will be able to help you locally-pharmacy?

Your country looks great with sunshine most of the year. Are you near the Carribean sea or the Atlantic? The Spanish architecture is beautiful . I guess you are still mulling things over in your mind as you are still upset. Would you feel better if you contacted your church pastor and explain you have not heard from them. They could be rushed off their feet. Your need for pastoral support could mean someone could help you with your pension claim in Canada. It seems a shame to have cut off links with people you have known for so long. Hope you feel more positive. Are you Scots?
