Anyone else feel this way?

Hi,

I feel like my anxiety symptoms run at me at 100 mph sometimes and don't understand why. They started about 8 months ago even though my life has been way more stressful in decades before. Nothing seemed to trigger this unless it is a perimenopause issue? I apologize if that is TMI. Am I alone in this?

When my anxiety is really hitting me, I feel like I can’t stop. Constantly doing something. But it’s never really constructive stuff. Background noise helps some. But I’m always on my phone. Flipping back and forth between apps. Getting up and doing some meaningless something.

Anxiety pushes more adrenaline into your blood so you can think and act faster. It's the "fight or flight" reaction. That's why your mind is racing. The key is to relax as much as possible, and let the adrenaline surge pass. Try some videos by Dr. Claire Weekes on YouTube for starters.

My anxiety hits when I am driving. I am not able to drive interstates anymore and even on smaller arterials it sometimes hits. I am on meds which help. Also I now try to only worry about the things I can change let go and let my higher power on the other things. That helps as well. When the anxiety hits it is horrible. Rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms and fear. If I can I get off the road and park for a minute to let my heartrate slow down. But that has only happened a few times, generally it's the fear of another attack that scares me. Before I drive sometimes I fear, most times though when I actually get in the car and start driving, I say this isn't that bad, my fear was not well placed. I start w a new therapist in a week so hopefully that will help as well

I have had it hit while driving too. Having to pull over and wait it out sucks. I hope your new therapist helps. I wish you well

Driving fear I should have but don't. I love to drive and jam to the radio. I was sexually abused by my father when I was a small child while driving. I am not afraid of driving and have no panic attacks. My 52-year-old sister had a fear of driving overpass roads. I encouraged her to do it. She has no fear now. She drove with one hand and rubbed a copper penny with the other. Her focus was on the penny and accomplished her fears.

If it is the beginning of menopause, I know that feeling. I am 56 and have gone through the change. It is all normal. Your body and hormones change. Anxiety is one symptom.
