Hi tamka,

I'm sorry that you've had a bad experience here. That's not usually the case. Is there anything I can help you with? I'll be here for awhile.

Hugs, Love, and Blessings...

tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Am just very depressed and anxious and hoping my medication work soon

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Oh, yes, a really rough time for sure. Distraction is a helpful thing.

what can you distract yourself with?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Am watching tv

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Will answer you in a minute, ok?

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

I apologize for the delay. I didn't want to not answer you right away, but someone called me...someone with whom we'd been trying to talk for several days.

TV works to a degree, it depends on how interested you are and how interesting the show is. 'Moving your muscles' is one way to help both the depression and the anxiety. If you can take a walk or move around so that you're active similar to going for a brisk walk, you'll reduce your stress and depression and anxiety a notch or so. It's not a huge recovery, but it does help relieve some of the misery.

Do you think you are breathing faster than normal due to anxiety?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Am breathing normal I haven’t left my house in weeks or haven’t really left my couch

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Ok, good. When I used to be anxious I'd find myself breathing faster than normal. A lot of people do. So slowing it down helps in that case. Maybe your anxiety isn't too severe?

Not leaving the house isn't so good. I don't know the weather where you are, though. Maybe you can't get out much? If possible, you will do better to move your body more and go places. I understand if you don't have much opportunity living with your relatives who aren't very welcoming. But maybe you can try to get out just in the neighborhood? You don't have school?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

My anxiety is severe and I don’t get panic attacks like I use too and right now depression and anxiety is through the roof and I been isolating myself at home for weeks and I only been on my new antidepressant for a week now it could just be the medication

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yes, it could. I guess I have to say that I'm not familiar with anxiety being severe where the person wasn't breathing too fast and slowing it down didn't help. You are a mystery to me.

Did you have an old antidepressant? And do you have school?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Symptoms of an anxiety attack can include:

A feeling of overwhelming fear

Feeling of going crazy or losing control

Feeling you are in grave danger

Feeling you might pass out

A surge of doom and gloom

An urgency to escape

Dizziness

Heart Palpitations

Trembling

Sweating

Shortness of breath

Chest pressure or pain

Turning pale

Feeling detached from reality

Weak in the knees

Burning skin

Pins and needles

Hot and cold flushes

Numbness and tingling sensations

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yup. But usually you have an assortment of symptoms and it's hard to have most of them without increasing respirations. It's just a basic underlying symptom...but not in your case, as you said.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

My heart is beating fast and I been doing deep breathing I just don’t let myself have a full anxiety attacks no more I try to stop them before they get big because I use to get them a couple of days in the same day in run to the E.R. Now I try and do whatever to let it pass

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

I'm sorry that has been the case in the past. That's really tough to handle but you seem to be doing well.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Am on a new antidepressant been on it for a week and do u have anxiety or depression or take medication?

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yes, for decades. MDD and now bipolar II, with GAD, PTSD and a little OCD. I've taken many different medications through the years.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Are u on medication right now? I take zoloft Trazodone Xanax but don’t want to reply on Xanax I have GAD PTSD Clinical depression panic disorder

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yes, I take Cymbalta/duloxetine, Seroquel/quetiapine, Wellbutrin/bupropion and a bunch of other drugs for my old lady body. ;o)...not any more psyche drugs.

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

I don't blame you for not wanting to rely on Xanax..it's a temporary fix. The Zoloft and Trazodone should help but with GAD I think you're going to end up moving the Xanax to another longer-acting benzo.

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply toBonnieSue

I forgot...the Zoloft should start helping as soon as 2nd week but increasingly helpful for about 6-8 weeks then levels off.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Have u try zoloft?

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yes, it worked fine for a couple of years. Then I transitioned to a similar drug. but always I was on a benzo at 4mg/day for the GAD. I didn't take myself off until almost 28 years later when my stress level went down a huge amount.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

My stress level is high

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

I'm sorry, that's miserable. But also that means you'll improve should you be in a situation where your stress level goes down. Mine went down hugely when my husband died. He had cancer and dementia and had become abusive. Since then I've reduced the number of drugs I take by almost half. I no longer even have 2 of my diagnoses that aren't psyche diagnoses.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Great news to feeling better

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

What benzo was u on

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Last one was Klonopin/clonazepam, 1st one was Tranzene/clorazepate. Only 2 in all those years. But...after about 15-18 years on them I started to have memory problems. But my dad who has taken a benzo for as long has no memory problems. We all seem to be different. But I could never have functioned and worked and raised a family without the benzos. So I don't regret taking them.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

My psychiatrist wanted me to start with 100 mg but I called him back and ask to start off with 50 mg I try Prozac for 2 weeks and had bad side effects

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Again, we're all different in some ways, aren't we? Prozac was my wonder drug. Worked amazingly well for about 12 years and then another 6-8 years after a break.

Sounds like you wanted to start low on the Zoloft because of your experience with the Prozac. That's wise but also may delay reaching your effective dose if you can tolerate it. But only delay by whatever interval he gives until increasing the Zoloft to 100 mgs.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Yeah I was scared about the Prozac side effects

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

So they were fairly strong?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

The side effects was hot flashes probably cause had waited it out but I wanted to stop it

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Only hot flashes or more side effects? Were they really strong and miserable?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

It was miserable for 3 days but I was on Prozac for 2 weeks I had hot flashes with zoloft and Friday made it a week but my doctor ask me to continue for 2 more weeks

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

It's very possible that whatever side effects you experience at 1st will reduce or go away completely once you get used to your SSRI or SNRI. Sometimes these drugs can make you feel somewhat hotter than normal but not always hot flashes. I hope they don't increase but decrease for you.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

They decrease but am just praying zoloft works for me because am tried and been dealing with this since 8 and self medicate off alcohol in my teen years until my adult years didn’t get help until 27 so am ready to live a normal life and be happy

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Sure. You've been waiting a bunch of years to get stabilized?

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

Zoloft should help with the anxiety

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Yes, but don't be surprised if it's not enough. It's not you, it's because GAD is a major anxiety disorder, not just a minor one. If Zoloft handles it, all well and good. If it doesn't, don't blame yourself for not handling it better. That's all I'm trying to say.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

What u mean not enough am scared to take Trazodone

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

Not enough means you have anxiety left over after Zoloft reduces it. You never get the right amount of comfortable. Then you know it's not enough. Don't waste time waiting for it to work after your doc says you've reached your final dose ofZoloft or for a few weeks longer. Ask for a benzo in addition to the trazodone if the trazodone is for bedtime. The trazodone is usually for bedtime to sleep. I also was on that for many years along with the SSRI and benzo. trazodone is extremely commonly prescribed for sleep.

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply toBonnieSue

I forgot to say this...if the Zoloft doesn't cover all of your anxiety, you may need to tell your doc that you know you have a major anxiety disorder that often calls for a benzo. Docs seem to have a mandate to not prescribe them at 1st and wait until they see you need a benzo in addition to your antidepressant...which can leave you miserable while waiting and waiting...

And I've read that benzos aren't usually addicting in prescribed doses, but when people take huge amounts of them.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

I have Xanax

BonnieSue profile image
BonnieSue in reply totamka38

True, but it seems hard to regulate. Not for everybody but for many people. Maybe for you it will work out. With GAD you often need round-the-clock coverage and Xanax in prescribed doses can be not enough for that coverage. When I took it, it worked between 2-4 hours or so. When I took the other benzos I mentioned they lasted 8 hours. Having said that, I know some information will say Xanax is good for 8 hours but it never got close for me.

That was a good observation to remind me of the Xanax. I tend to write it off as temporary and low dosage.

tamka38 profile image
tamka38 in reply toBonnieSue

U right Xanax is temporary

Hello tamka38,

I take Sertraline which is the generic form of Zoloft I believe.

I am now being weaned off them as they help the depression but not the anxiety.

I also take Trazadone to help me sleep and they work well for that.

Good luck with the Zoloft and I am here for you too x
