Love & support needed.

My husband found his father deceased this afternoon. His dad was in his seventies & was an alcoholic.... this was a great fear for my husband. He is an only child & his dad lived alone. I'm at my house with my mom (We were going to go shopping)... he wouldn't let me go over (dad lived in same town)......

Hey, Mel. I am truly sorry for the loss of your father-in-law. What a horrible tragedy!

I'll never forget that feeling of unbelievability when I found out my mother died from alcoholism when she vomited in her sleep & was too drunk to roll over. I can't even begin to know what I'd go through if I had found her! I think it should have read in her obituary, "Died from untreated alcoholism".

My sympathies to your husband and to you, Mel. Even though my mom died in the late 80's, I can still conjure up that horrible feeling; however, she remains part of my higher power and my strength since I've been sober just over 25 years.

One last thing...there's not one bloody thing your husband, or anyone for that matter, could have done to fix his dad. My mom was 52, but being in his 70's is still waaayyyyy too young to pass away.

Take care, both of you. Huge hugs! Colleen

Perhaps Al-Anon could help the whole family. It was created to help families and friends of Alcoholics. It will help them heal. Alcoholism is a disease, its a weird one because, the person wont accept it. Unless the individual realizes, there is very little others can do. This is coming from a recovered Alcoholic. Believe me. I lost my brother to this disease in 94 and I still continued to drink until I hit a bottom in 2006, Its been little over 12 years. I have seen lot of drinking cousins and friends die but I remain in gods grace by working the 12 steps of AA.

Oh my goodness.

I'm not on here much. I'm new to this. I want to say, my heart goes out to you and your husband. Having lost a parent myself (@ the age of 15) I know how your husband feels.

Sending healing energies. Much Love.

I'm so sorry. 😞😞

I'm sorry for your loss. I pray that you and your husband find strength during this difficult time.

So sorry. That happened to my friend at Christmas last year and she is 1800 miles away from me and the rest of her family. He was almost 90 and a smoker.
