Something New

lovesbeachesandbooks profile image

I am 22 years old and have been dealing with Generalized Anxiety disorder and severe depression for a while. It seems like forever with being told what it was that was the issue. I need to try something new and see what helps. Feeling like I am slowly losing myself to these things that like to try and take control of my life. It's even harder to fight for control over my mind. Hoping joining this community I can find better ways to help me cope.

Hello lovesbeach!

My strategy is very simple in theory, but isn’t easy to implement. It takes commitment and practice. Here goes...you have to change your thought patterns from negative to positive. No ruminating allowed! If you’re having trouble redirecting your thoughts out of negativity, distract yourself with something you enjoy or that needs to be done. If distraction doesn’t work, then get out and help someone less fortunate than yourself. There’s no better way to get out of yourself than getting into someone else. Live only in today. Stay out of the past and the future...deal only with the things in which you have control, otherwise, it’s an exercise in futility! One of my sons tells me that I’m putting my head in the sand, but I call it self-preservation! It really works! He can think whatever he wants, it’s ok with me. I’m confident in my choices today, for the most part! 😉 Yes, try something new! Why not? Wishing you the best 🙂🌷🙂

Awesome advice GratitudeFirst!! I need to take a screenshot!!

First off welcome to the site! Are you able to take your mind to a happy place or time? Do you like music, turn it on & dance your heart away. Feeding positive thoughts into your brain is very helpful. I wish for you peace of mind. Love, joy, light & hugs!!!
