I’ve been suffering for six months wth major depression and anxiety…went Through similar nine years ago and four years ago… all times on medication And therapy and this time also using legal medical cannabis which doesn’t seem to help… The worst part is getting up in the morning finding a reason to get out of bed face the day In spite of the hopeless and overwhelming feelings that flood my brain… I know I’m not alone but sometimes I stay in bed for four or more hours before I can find the will to get up… Can anyone relate to this? I’m sure I’m not the only one with the huge struggle to face life of feeling overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. I have read mountains about anxiety and depression trying to help myself even though I have a lot of support with friends and family and good doctors… I just have no desire to do anything And find very little enjoyment in anything as seems to be common with this illness… Truly a very different person than I used to be when I was feeling good and actually living my life… I suppose I’m looking for Empathy and understanding and possible suggestions to ride the really rough times

We are all here for you friend. One thing I would encourage you right of the bat is to not stay in bed. Have the discipline to jump out of bed to get the day started no matter how hard it seems. This is not a depression matter, but a matter of discipline. The key is to start taking control over the things you believe you have no control over. This will bring you the confidence to start chipping away at all the things you feel you have no control over. Maybe jump out of bed, drink a glass of water and start with a 15-20 walk to get your heart pumping and blood flowing. This will set a strong tone for the rest of your day. How does your diet look? Are you avoiding all the processed foods that have chemicals that create havoc on our bodies?
Has anyone ever considered that you might be bipolar? Your sporadic depression and the severity sound like the bipolar depressions I have only had twice in my life, thank God! Mood stabilizer? Talk to doc

Yes I relate..infact I stayed in bed all day today..but other days I do get up with a struggle but I get up...so one day, just stay there..in bed. Don't fight it. Just stay in bed all day if you want..I know it feels good when I do..I have some really nice power naps in between..so be it..it's not gonna solve the problem if you do or don't..Ive tried everything and still trying to get over this debilitating illness..it doesn't hurt if you sleep in all day..infact I think it does good...we know we can't do it everyday but aslong as we don't have anything else to do then give yourself this break..it's the least of my problems for just that one day...it also motivates me to get up the next day..good luck and enjoy..
Hi Hank, and thanks for opening up the way you did. I'm encouraged to see you reaching out for help - that is such an important step - moving from point A to point B. You have motivation and determination already, and that is good!
Speaking from my own experience, I know what it feels like to suffer from a chemical imbalance in the brain. Some people are born that way, and while I can't prove that for myself, I know for certain that my brain needed some help to do what God designed it to do.
Your brain, being the central headquarters for the entire body, is where the "fight-or-flight" response originates, which sends signals to the adrenal glands, which sends a signal to our cortisol, which rushes into our bloodstream and creates all sorts of new responses. It is a chain reaction and many functions are involved in the process to help us cope.
The danger occurs when this mechanism stays turned on for a prolonged period of time. The brain then stores the pattern of fear (and other emotions such as despair, grief, or feelings of worthlessness, etc.) into its memory and a person continues to live in a state of helplessness. That is one explanation, watered down in very simple terms.
People have different ways of coping, and what works for one may not work for the other, so until a person gets tested by a functional doctor specializing in endocrinology, there is no way to devise a plan for treatment. A functional doctor is able to test your brain waves to see which part of the brain is not sending out the right amount of rays, thus determining exactly where your problem is. No two humans will ever have the same results. He can then do brain therapy, which consists of simple eye and arm exercises, designed to trigger more brain waves in the specific areas they are needed. Does that make sense?
Another easy way to promote the release of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine (hormones that give a sense of well-being) is through exercise. believe it or not, your body releases these into the bloodstream with regular exercise. I know you struggle getting out of bed, but I at least wanted you to know there is a way to combat your depression by exercising.
Do you have someone in your life who you consider to be a close friend and a support to you? Sometimes all we need is to unload our burdens to a trusted friend who loves us unconditionally. Feeling connected to another human being, who understands us the most, can be healing.
Please don't remain isolated or cut yourself off from others. My logic is that since you were courageous enough to get online here and ask a question, I believe you are courageous enough to make some phone calls and search for the right kind of doctor who can treat your brain.
Diet is paramount to feeling better. No sugar, no caffeine, no junk food, no processed foods, no fast foods, but just clean pure fresh foods at all times. You need heavy doses of nutrients and minerals to feed your body parts the right food.
You can do this! One step at a time!
