I could use some help, my friend has really bad self harm issues. She is finding it hard to stay clean. Anyone have advice to help the urges?

Are there any self-help groups in your area for people struggling to quit drugs and alcohol?

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I thought you were talking about drug/alcohol abuse.

What helped me get over it was a couple things...

1) I had a favourite cutting knife. My counsellor suggested I put it somewhere I can get it but is harder to reach. Like the creepy basement or a high shelf. That way I have to make a very conscience decision. It helped reduce it at first.

2) things to do to instead. Make a list of things to do BEFORE you self harm and place it where you would go to do that. Example: I’d put it next to my knife. Things like call a certain friend, read favourite book, Color (adult colouring books are great!)...

3) feeding your mind with good stuff. I practise gratitude daily (listing things I’m grateful for), listening to personal development tapes (tony Robbins), and pouring my efforts into being a better person and my career.

Hope this helps! I probably got more. But that’s what came to mind now. 😊❤️

Sure thing! It’s a journey. But if your friend work hard, she can be free of it one day! Keep us posted on your friend. Hope she gets better ❤️

Sounds good. Will do 😊

She needs professional assistance! Getting high isn’t helpful, I’m sure. I would encourage her to get help.

Celebrate Recovery is a great resource where she could find support and learn new coping skills, especially if she does a step study. Having a support system is important.
