I’ve been in Effexor for 2 weeks after having a horrible time on Prozac. I was on Prozac for a month and a half and got extremely depressed and suicidal. My doctor started me on Effexor and my depression went away right away.
My anxiety has been horrible though. And today was the worst. I had a panic attack at the movies and had to run out. I literally thought I was going to pass out and die.
I’ve read a lot of different things about the effectiveness of Effexor for anxiety. And it seems like it’s more help for depression than anxiety. Should i keep giving it a go since it helped me so much with my depression? Or stop now?

Darlarea, I haven’t taken Effexor before but have had the same issues with other Antidepressants. Have you talked with your DR about your anxiety? Though I’m not much of a “multiple scripts” person, sometimes there are medications that’s can combined with others to help in different needs. I take SSRIs for depression and a few other medications for Anxiety, and Insomnia. And though without therapy full symptoms may be hard to completely rid. I would speak with your DR and express your concerns. Rooting for you! You got this!
Thank you. I have Xanax for when things get really bad but I hate having to rely on them....they also don’t help very much. They are .25 mg.
I have to take multiple meds for depression and anxiety. Don’t give up if it takes up to eight weeks to work. I would talk with my doctor. A therapist will help too.
NO, do not give up. Effexor is a very good drug and it has helped me many times. It sounds as though you need an add on- a mood stabilizer like Abilify. (I take it) (Latuda is not a good one) You can take these mood stabilizers WITH the anti-depressant. Also maybe Xanax or Ativan? Those work well too. These can ALL be taken with Effexor and yes Prozac is horrible, Ive been there! I hope this helps! ; )
