I haven't been eating much at all, and I'm on so many meds that those are most of my caloric intake. I'm extremely weak, my joints become sore after only a few minutes of sitting, and I've begun bruising very easily. My doctor had me do an EKG because she thinks my heart may be affected from lack of nutrients. I'm not anorexic, I'm just terrified of food. All food makes me feel nauseous, so to avoid it and the anxiety that follows it, I won't eat. I think I really need help.

Hi there, I can empathise with not wanting to eat. The meds I am on put me off food but in my case I force myself to eat because I have a husband and 2 children who need me. That said for a number of weeks I could only take build up drinks which are nutritionally balanced and about 300 calories each. They suggest you take 4 drinks a day. Would you be able to see a dietitian or nutritionalist to get professional help? It doesn't sound like you can go on like this. I really hope you can get the help you need, take care and let us know how you are getting on.
It does sound to me like you may have a version of anorexia. As Caz said, I would try nutritional drinks in place of meals, and also see a dietician as soon as possible. Also, you should see a gastroenterologist to s ee if there are any underlying stomach or intestinal issues causing this. As you say, you really do need help. Not eating can be very damaging to your health, as I think you already know. It can also be fatal, if not treated appropriately.
I have tried the nutritional drinks for sure, but the issue is I can never get myself to finish one! Even a full glass of water is rare for me to be able to consume at one time. Simple 15 second jogging spurts put me completely out of breath, but i wont drink water afterward because my stomach will become very upset, tight, and bloated and I will feel loads of nausea. My doctors won't do much- they say its psychological, but my psychologist says its also physical so its at an impasse.
Well, as Hypercat says, below, you can die from this. You are destroying yourself. Try to be much more aggressive with your doctors. See a gastroenterologist ASAP. Have you lost a lot of weight? You can also be treated medically in a hospital for this condition.
You definitely need help. Most meds require you to eat when taking them. Have you tried protein shakes or nutritional shakes? It may be one of your meds causing the nausea. Have you tried nausea meds? More meds May not seem appealing. Keep working with your doctor.
Hi the simple truth is if you don't eat you will die! This is a medical emergency and your doctor should be doing a lot more to help you or if s/he can't then you need to be referred to other help immediately. x
Think you're right. Are you under the care of a neuropsychiatrist? This type of psychiatrist is board certified in neurology as well as psychiatry and in my experience works well with one's GP.
What medication are you taking and for what purpose? May be helpful for members of the venue, as we don't know what type of doctor is RX them, and if there are physical conditions requiring them, rather than all being for anxiety or depression.
You have received some very good of insightful advice. Please take it seriously. You really don't to end up in hospital on an IV or feeding tube. xx
Ok, that RX for a serotonin blocker "as needed" is a concern....as the term "as needed" can mean anything, from once a day to every hour a day.
Looks like no physical issue is being addressed. The other members responding are better informed than I am regarding the need for nourishment than I. Please follow their advice.
Just wanted to make certain there wasn't a medication being RX for a physical condition that might be involved.xx
I agree, my anxiety primarily manifests as nausea, and that Rx leaves constipation to deal with which means miralax to add to this med cocktail. I'm 17! I shouldn't have this many meds.
You're correct....you are young and one of the replies mentioned you may actually have an eating disorder. Please reread all the replies, make some decisions, and take action. This is an emergency situation for you. Respond back to any or all the relies that you may need more support or instructions on what or how to do what the member wrote to you.
PLEASE. xxx
There are many meds that can help with nausea that won’t be so binding. Mirilax just adds water to your bowels. It’s really not bad anyway. It’s very gentle. I think you may also look into other reasons you are so nauseas all the time. Perhaps modifying a diet instead of giving up all food could help. Less grease, preservatives etc. All natural. Even if you do vomit you would get something. Again try protein shakes, endure etc. I had my teeth wired shut and got under 70 pounds in my senior year of H.S. My mom made me protein endure shakes with endure, strawberry ice cream and various fruit but mostly banana. This can be modified many ways to your taste. You can also do lactose free if that bothers you. Vitamins too. Of course coordinate anything you do with your doctors. Your meds must not be helping if you are still do nauseas. Perhaps you should discuss switching them. Advil can be very hard on your stomach as well. Meds can cause nausea quite often.
