I need help

I am completely unable to eat. I'm hungry sometimes, but my anxiety is so bad that no matter what I eat I will immediately feel sick right after and for hours later. I can barely drink water, and my body is suffering badly. Muscle atrophy is a constant issue, and I would rather be hungry than nauseous. I need help badly, because if I don't eat, or become sick after I eat, I don't think I'll actually live through it all due to malnutrition, and I have too much to live for to let anxiety kill me through lack of food.

Just know ANXIETY CANNOT KILL YOU! Do you like to still eat your favorite food? Maybe try switching your foods up. Or even see a doctor. Don’t be afraid to get help because that’s what they are there for!

I know it's not anxiety itself that will, but it's malnourishment. Sometimes I don't eat or drink for days, then I pass out. My doctor has had no answers, neither has my therapist

Maybe try taking some vitamins? Or even get your blood work done, try eating something small first and then work your way up. Also maybe you should be a new doctor maybe they may have some answers. Eat something like crackers something plain that won’t cause too much on your stomach

I totally understand. I have/am going through similar. Sometimes I have to literally wash what little I do eat down with water. I try to force feed myself something every two hours. I tell myself that the panicky feelings will worsen due to low blood sugar otherwise. I have also lost a lot of weight, but fortunately fluids are no problem, which I am sad to see is not the case with you, otherwise I would have suggested liquidising some fruit.

What works for me is baby portions and even eating with a teaspoon. If I am successful I can always go back for more.

Again multivitamins, or a tonic may help you over the worst.

Please persevere. You will be able to overcome this, even though it may not seem like it now.

pink83737. Anxiety is the overproduction of fight or flight hormones like cortisol. It damages the organs, and the nervous system. It causes joint and muscle pain. It changes the physical brain like the amygdala and the frontal lobes. Some say it may cause ulcers but I can't say that for sure. It speeds up aging and is the cause of some autoimmune illnesses. It does cause heart problems and shortens life spans. It can even bring on an asthma attack.

Um you are not correct. Anxiety is only temporary depending on how you can handle it. It causes heart pains but not heart problems...if you have asthma is could bring an asthma attack. I understand what you’re saying but I don’t believe you are correct besides the part where it causes MUSCLE PAIN!

Research shows these to be correct.

Hi ittle Rose, have you tried those “ensure” or nutriement drinks. They contain all the vitamins and minerals we need to stay healthy and they come in all different flavours. Your GP can prescribe them for you under certain circumstances. I got them for my dad when he was ill and they really helped him.

You needto talk to your doctor so that you can get the help you need.

Stay strong, stay well. ❤️

If you are in the US, Ensure is available in supermarkets. There are a number of flavors and calorie choices. I also think it can be ordered on Amazon.

I went through this twice to where I couldn’t eat and verily could drink. I had no saliva in my mouth from the anxiety. I used the ensure. It is way easier to swallow liquid than to try and eat and keep down solid food. It is loaded with vitamins your body needs plus calories.

I hope you are ok. Let us know how you are doing.

I really appreciate it guys. I'll try Ensure- my parents work in healthcare and I've seen it used before. Anything I can do at this point I'll try

I wonder if it's an autoimmune problem. This may sound trivial but I watch a program called Mystery diagnosis. It's about people with strange symptoms that doctors ignore.

I had anxiety over eating at one time too and couldn't eat. That's because I had fibroids. I am not saying you have this. I am saying you may need to check your symptoms to see if there is anything biological going on.

I've been to countless doctors, and physically there is no issue that could contribute to this specific symptom. I have countless other physical issues but none that could do this

Hmmm. It is a mystery. You HAVE to get nourishment. Have any of the doctors spoken to you about an alternate way of getting nourishment into you like a tube? I know that's drastic, but it would at least get some nourishment into you until they can find out what the problem is. If you feel you are in danger it might be something to think about.

Here is another drastic idea. What about hypnoses or regression therapy? If it's not physical perhaps there is something deeper? As I wrote before; anxiety and depression do physical things to the body.

I suffer from extreme PTSD as well, and hypnosis had no effect when I tried it, but I could try regression therapy

I was given Xanax for a bit the first time I was suffering about 5 years ago with extreme anxiety and couldn’t eat. After taking just a small dose I was starving. I used it daily for awhile until I felt my anxiety has subsided enough to function normally on my own again.

My second episode which started a year ago has been just as bad with no appetite. This time I can’t get my new dr to prescribe Xanax. I had some left over from years ago that I’ve been using so I’m not starving to death yet. I’m sure I’ll have to go back to the ensure once I am out of Xanax if I can’t get myself back to my good place.

Best wishes for you!

Just be very careful. This type of therapy can bring up deeply hidden and very painful regressed memories.
