I need help😞

Hi guys I’m 21 and have been unemployed for over a year now due to GAD ( generalised anxiety disorder) and health anxiety and despite improving a lot over the past few months after hitting some real low points I’m just really really REALLY struggling with these ridiculous crazy beliefs I have. For example I was watching a film earlier and fully believed that film would make me be sick (I’m purposely not writing out the name of the film because if I do I will be sick I believe even though I know it’s nonsense) I don’t watch tv shows because I believe they give me bad luck I don’t lay on bed sheets I’ve never used before because if I do my skin will become irritated. How can I combat this what is why do I feel this way and think this way have I gone mad?

Dear Meyer_Gdmnx, No, you have not gone "mad". Many people suffer from similar unfounded fears. Various treatments are available and some have worked for me. I suggest you first talk to a primary care doctor for blood test to rule out simple metabolic imbalances and to discuss your concerns. There are several good online sources for actual doctors that accept some insurance plans. I had a good experience with a psychiatrist on Doctorondemand.com who understood my issues and ordered the appropriate lab tests. I hope your are able to find some help there or other online sources.

This site doesn't seem to be very helpful in timely response. I was just trying to pay the $10 to see the "Fear of Driving" webinar with no luck in the finding how to do so. I noticed that there was no response to your call for help, so I added my experienced two cents. Just know that there is help available for you and I would be happy to steer toward some.

Thank you for your reply I certainly will check that out it sounds like a good service and I’m glad it worked for you I wish you continued success in overcoming your challenges

Perhaps a bit of meds to help you & going to therapy to discuss your thought patterns can train you to not escalate. We all have silly things we do or don’t do. if it’s intrusive on your life that’s a problem. Sounds anxiety OCD like. You can either do nothing or something to challenge yourself. I think I’d want to know!

Hi thank you for your reply it was very helpful I have been in therapy twice now this has only come on over the past few weeks and when I spoke to my therapist she said thankfully that it wasn’t OCD as there was no compulsion to it. And agreed with you I just have to challenge it and try to not be afraid of what mayor may not happen

Good luck overcoming your challenges as well I wish you all the strength in the world

I was resistant to medication for my social anxiety at first due to hearing about many potential unwanted side effects. But I was hitting a ceiling with just talk therapy, my mood still wasn't coming around either. In hindsight, I wish I had started taking my anti-anxiety medication sooner because it has been a huge benefit to improving my condition and helped me progress in regular therapy sessions.

You are right to be hesitant about taking medication as everyone reacts differently, but it could deliver a boost to your mental state and allow you to enhance your progress with the things your therapist suggests you work on.
