Genesight?

Has anyone here tried Genesight? I have had so many bad reactions to antidepressants. I have resisted trying any more for years. I go to my psychiatrist to get xanax but I resist antidepressants due to my past bad reactions. I'm getting so down now. My psychologist has suggested genesight. It's a neuropsychiatric test that can only be ordered by a doctor that is supposed to take genetic info and tell us which meds will definitely cause side effects, which are okay, and which are best based on our genetic predispositon. I have my next appt on 12/18 and I will take if covered by my insurance - I am currently blessed with great insurance that will end this year. Im just wondering if anyone else has tried and what they thought.

Thank you.

I’m not sure if that is what I did a couple of years ago. It more was for showing how my body metabolizes certain types of drugs as I have always had to be in the highest doses of medicine to feel even the slightest effect. It helps the psychiatrist and I figure the more information the better. I would like to take that xy23 test and my daughters to see if it shows if they inherited any of my depressive genes. Let me know how this works for you as any info I can get to help me get the right help is much needed. Been experimenting with different drugs the past two years and still haven’t found the right medicine.

What you're saying sounds right. I'm thinking of it as a anti-depressant recommendation but my psychologist made reference to how we metabolize things so It think it's what you said. I've had some extreme reactions to the lowest doses of anti-depressants that work well for others and ever since have resisted taking anything else. Since I'm not progressing I'm finally giving in to taking something but only with this test. The current test shows different anti-depressants (I saw a sample) and lists like red, yellow, green for what should work - was that your experience? I have to say the fact that you haven't found the magic cure is NOT encouraging.

As for heredity EDIT: I saw an article about how we should not tell family of genetic results. The\y say for these things its what COULD happen even if there is a tendency and we should hope that our family and not worry then unnecessarily. Makes sense.

YES I did Genesight back in October, it worked well for me, they swabbed my cheek, sent it to the lab, came back with just 2 choices of antibiotics that would work for my body. Dr. put me on one, I have had no side affects and it is helping. I have a battle going on in my body between anxiety and depression, the a.b. I am on is supposed to tackle both illnesses, I also take 2 extra anxiety pills and med to help me sleep. the a.b. is pristiq - I take the generic it is cheaper (but not real cheap). Hope this answers your question, I recommend Genesight to all who suffer side affects. I wish you luck and I am glad you asked as I think we need to get the word out. I am pulling for you, I send you love, courage and peace. Sprinkle 1
